In the Stars January 16-23, 2022...shining light on the astrology of the week: Full Moon

Mercury turned retrograde on Friday, January 14 where it will be for three weeks until February 3. During this time it is common to experience problems with technology, transportation, and communication. Mercury retrograde periods are good times to re-think, revise, renovate, and retreat. During this retrograde period Mercury is close to Saturn and square Uranus. We may think of more frugal, efficient, and effective ways of doing things. Turn communication mishaps into opportunities, and don’t be bothered with things that may not go as planned.

On Monday, January 17 there will be an intense Full Moon, opposite Pluto, square Eris, and in opposition to the Venus/Pluto conjunction in the Winter Solstice chart. Emotions will run high, and there may be heavy precipitation.

Uranus will turn direct the next day, January 18. Uranus' energy is particularly intense as it changes direction, and it will do that in a precise square to Saturn in the winter solstice chart. With Mercury retrograde and Uranus turning direct, there may be a lot of shifts this week.

The true nodes shift signs tropically from Gemini/Sagittarius to Taurus/Scorpio also on January 18. This will turn our focus toward security, resources, and the environment. The efforts to address climate change may become stronger. The nodes will be in Taurus/Scorpio until July 17, 2023 when they will shift to Aries/Libra.

Sunday the Sun exactly conjuncts Pluto. The Moon opposes Venus, lending to us feeling like we need more support. This may be a volatile day, yet one that holds a lot of power. It can be a productive day. We are still drawn to focus on home.

Monday is intense and stormy as the Cancer Full Moon conjuncts Pluto and squares Eris. Saturn and Mercury are in a tense square to Uranus in the Full Moon chart. The Cancer Moon is emotional, and the Moon is strong in Cancer as it rules the sign. With Pluto and Eris involved, this is a particularly dynamic Full Moon. Pluto demands transformation, which requires letting go of something. It would be good to put this planetary energy to work clearing clutter and stuff. Or the demands may call for letting go of relationships that no longer serve. “Let go and step into big change” would be the mantra for this Monday in the light of this Full Moon.

Tuesday is full of planetary activity, twists and turns. Uranus turns direct in motion after a five-month backward spin. When planets make stations and turn direction, their symbolism is amplified. Thus, this may be a day of unexpected shifts and turns. The creative Leo Moon will be taxed by a square to Uranus and an opposition to Saturn. The true nodal axis shifts into Taurus (North Node)/Scorpio (South Node) tropically, moving us into a focus on security, finances, and resources for the next two and a half years. This is definitely a day to do things differently. Be open to the sideways direction life may take you, and see what you may discover. And be careful!

Wednesday the Capricorn Sun makes a trine to the North Node, now in Taurus. Perhaps you will feel the grounded, steady, slow energy of the nodal shift, and this trine. In contrast to yesterday’s day of rumbling, this is a day when we plod forward and much can be accomplished. Wednesday is the Sun’s last day in Capricorn.

The Virgo Moon frames the next two and a half days for getting your life in order. There are few aspects on Thursday. A Moon-Jupiter opposition reminds us of the bigger picture, and expands us beyond the minute aspects and business of the day. Get on your game and take care of the many details on your task list.

Friday, Venus’ Day, is blessed by easy trines to the Moon from Venus and Uranus, creating a grounding Grand Earth Trine early in the day. This day is blessed with good energy. The Moon’s opposition to Neptune in the evening invites us to watch a movie, and then settle into a night rich in dreams.

A strong Moon-Pluto trine Saturday morning helps us get the weekend chores accomplished. After a brief void Moon period from 11:45 a.m. until 2:02 p.m. PST, the Moon moves into congenial Libra. A lovely trine from the Moon to Mercury and the Sun in the evening invites us to enjoy some fine dining in elegance and style with loved ones.

Sunday invites leisure, beauty, and pleasure in the light of a Libra Moon. A Moon-Saturn trine grounds us, and allows us to enjoy easy social interactions. Relax into the Sabbath Sunday.

Mars ingresses into Capricorn, its sign of exaltation, on Monday where it will be until March 5. Mars in Capricorn supports hard work and sound functional decisions. Pluto conjuncts Juno, the planet of the mate, signaling that it may be time to transform your relationship and work things out for the better.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
