In the Stars January 23-30, 2022...shining light on the astrology of the week

Uranus turned direct in motion this past week. Mars moves into Capricorn on Monday, January 24th, tropically. Capricorn is Mars’ sign of exaltation, or where it best functions. Mars in Capricorn gives sharp energy for administration and getting work done practically and sensibly.

Mercury turned retrograde on Friday, January 14 for three weeks until February 3. During this time it is common to experience problems with technology, transportation, and communication. Mercury retrogrades periods are good times to re-think, revise, renovate, and retreat. During this retrograde period Mercury is close to Saturn and square Uranus. On a positive note, we may re-think something in a completely new, innovative manner. We may re-connect with people in our lives. We may think of more frugal, efficient, and effective ways of doing things. Turn communication mishaps into opportunities, and don’t be bothered with things that may not go as planned.

The New Moon in Aquarius perfects on Monday, January 31 at 9:45 p.m. Pacific Time. The New Moon in Aquarius is the Chinese New Year. This is the Year of the Water Tiger. Tiger energy is restless and explosive. Some big leaps are often taken in Tiger years. People may step up and do extraordinary things. There may be an increased focus on borders, and a readiness for war. We can expect extremes in weather, and particularly regarding water. This can be a range from droughts to flooding.

Sunday invites leisure, beauty, and pleasure in the light of a Libra Moon. A Moon-Saturn trine grounds us, and allows us to enjoy easy social relations. Relax into the Sabbath Sunday.

On Monday Mars ingresses into Capricorn, its sign of exaltation where it will be until March 5. Mars in Capricorn supports hard work and sound, functional decisions. Pluto conjuncts Juno, the planet of the mate, signaling that it may be time to transform your relationship and work things out for the better.

Emotions run strong on Tuesday; the Scorpio Moon makes a benefic trine to Jupiter in Pisces, and an opportune sextile to retrograde Venus. These aspects set us up for a glowing day. The Moon’s opposition to Uranus could bring some unexpected twists and turns, especially a strong possibility with Mercury being retrograde. Ceres is conjunct the North Node, inviting nourishing connections with others.

Wednesday through Sunday Mercury, Pluto, and Juno hang close together around 26 degrees of Capricorn. In addition, there are three more planets in Capricorn: Venus, Mars, and Vesta. With six planets in Capricorn, and two conjunct Pluto, we feel the yoke of work. Lean in and use this energy; a lot can be accomplished.

Thursday and Friday are blessed with the optimism of the Sagittarius Moon. We may feel stretched to our limits by the Moon-Jupiter square early Thursday. A testy Moon-Mercury-Pluto aspect may make for some heated, deep conversations later in the day.

A dreamy Moon-Neptune square Friday morning can be relaxing, inspiring, or perhaps confusing. This aspect ushers in a long void Moon period for the rest of the day, so stick to routine tasks for the rest of the day. Mercury and Pluto are exactly conjunct, increasing the ability to talk about deep matters. We may tend to be blunt, so think carefully about what you say. The Sag Moon loves a social evening.

The weekend is framed for work. The Moon joins the other seven planets in Capricorn. You can tackle a big project and get a lot accomplished, both on Saturday and Sunday.

The Sun-Uranus square perfects on Sunday, and thus, the day is likely not to go as planned. Still you can get a lot accomplished with the true grit of the stellium of planets in Capricorn. Set limits and goals, and get to work. This is not a Sunday for leisure. The Moon is dark, so will want to draw inward.

Monday harbors the New Moon in Aquarius at 9:45 p.m. PST. This is the beginning of the Chinese New Year, which occurs February 1 on the East Coast and other eastern points. The Moon is in Aquarius and expresses as free and independent, and interested in others. The Moon conjuncts squares Uranus and later will conjunct Saturn in the early hours of Tuesday. The Moon is at its darkness until it aligns in a New Moon at 9:45 p.m. PST. Expect surprises and new things to be revealed.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
