In the Stars March 20-27, 2022...shining light on the astrology of the week

The Sun moves into Aries on Sunday, March 20, beginning a new solar cycle and marking the Spring Equinox. Day and night are equal, and the Sun begins to overtake the darkness. Aries, symbolized by the Ram, is a cardinal, action-oriented fire sign. Aries energy is quick, initiating, and independent. Aries is like a newly ignited flash fire burning brightly. The month of Aries invites initiations and new beginnings, courage, and leadership.

The month when the Sun is in Aries can also be volatile. Major earthquakes and extreme acts of violence have occurred when the Sun is in Aries. Among the solar Aries events are the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake; the beginning and ending of the Civil War; the burning of the Branch Dividian cult compound in Waco, Texas in 1993; the beginning of the genocide in Rwanda in 1994; and the bombing explosion of the Oklahoma City Federal Building in 1995, With the war raging between Russia and the Ukraine, the volatile month of Aries is of concern.

Fortunately, Jupiter is moving to perfect in a conjunction with Neptune on April 8th. This is a peaceful, inspiring combination that may serve to calm the storms. We can now feel this influence which will be strong through the end of April. This Jupiter-Neptune conjunction invites us to let our imagination soar and dream new possibilities.

The Sun moves into Aries tropically on Sunday morning, bringing us to the beginning of a new astrological year and the season of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Mercury conjuncts Jupiter, inspiring conversation and writing. The Spring Equinox March 20 is the day when dark and light are equal, marking a new beginning with light increasing each day.

Gear up for a demanding Monday with numerous challenging aspects: Moon square Mars and Venus, Moon opposite Uranus, and Moon square Saturn. On the other hand there are some benefic, helpful aspects such as Mars sextile Chiron, and Moon trine to Mercury and Neptune. Monday is a mixed day full of planetary activity. The Moon is in emotional, and often brooding, Scorpio. Expect to weather a few storms.

The Scorpio Moon makes a benefic sextile to Pluto on Tuesday morning. This aspect is an invitation to dive for treasure. Yet, this Moon-Pluto aspect sets the beginning of a void Moon period all morning that does not support meetings or definitive actions. Rather it is a time to lean in and vigorously accomplish routine tasks. At 11:58 a.m. PDT the Moon bounces into buoyant Sagittarius. In addition, a restless Mars-Uranus square perfects at 1:43 p.m. PDT. This Mars-Uranus aspect is creative and expressive, but be careful, as it can also be rash and reckless. A Sun-Moon trine in fire signs Aries and Sagittarius respectively is inspiring and exciting. Direct your enthusiasm toward good aims.

The Moon is in optimistic Sagittarius on Wednesday. Benefic aspects abound, making this an expansive, free-flowing day. Juxtaposed with the horrors of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, I can hardly affirm an easy, optimistic day. But this one offers hope and possibility. We are also called to take a hike and enjoy nature.

The Sagittarius Moon squares Mercury in Pisces at 5:58 a.m. PDT Thursday, beginning a long Moon void of course period until 2:53 p.m. The direction for the day may be wavering and unclear until the Moon moves into Capricorn at 2:53 p.m. PDT. You can make some strides in the late afternoon and evening in the light of the Capricorn Moon. Plan the weekend head.

Friday promises to be a productive day. A Moon-Uranus trine will stir excitement, perhaps resulting in surprise. Introduce something new into your routine.

Saturday is an industrious, intense day. Engage in a demanding weekend project. This is not a Saturday for rest or leisure. The Moon squares Eris and conjuncts Pluto. After a productive day, meet up with friends for dinner and a lively conversation after 5:55 p.m. PDT.

Our concerns focus on progressive issues on Sunday. A Moon-Uranus square may trigger unexpected twists and turns. Mercury moves into Aries where thinking and communication will be clearer than it has been the past few weeks with Mercury in Pisces. Feelings may be heated in the evening with the Moon’s aspects to Mars and Mercury.

The Moon is void of course all day Monday. This is not a day to schedule meetings or tasks requiring decisions. Rather, it is a day for routine, inconsequential matters. Moon, Venus, Juno, and Saturn all meet at the 22nd degree of Aquarius. Neptune makes a benefic sextile to the North Node, shining light on a more peaceful future.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
