In the Stars September 17-24, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week
With the Sun in Virgo tropically through September 22 (the Fall Equinox), the next few days invite us to get our lives in better order. In the waxing phase of the Moon, we can get to work on personal goals for self-improvement.
Mercury is now direct, though it is in its shadow phase until September 30. Still, communication starts to clear and we can go about cautiously starting, or re-starting projects.
Six planets are now retrograde: Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. All this retrograde energy invites an interior, reflective, intuitive focus. Retrograde planets are slow, and thus, their energy is amplified. This is a good time to reflect, re-think, and re-work plans.

The focus is on relationships on Saturday and Sunday with the Moon in Libra. Mars conjuncts the Moon on Saturday, September 16, activating the need to connect with a loved one. A Moon-Venus sextile amplifies tender-heartedness and invites pleasure. A Venus-Uranus square may be disruptive, or bring a new twist to matters of love or money.
Sunday, September 17, aspects to the Moon from Eris and Pluto may churn up emotions and reveal some truths about relationships. The Libra Moon loves art and beauty, so visit an art museum, or take a stroll in a beautiful garden.
Monday’s (September 18) Moon-Saturn trine anchors the day early, drawing us toward duty and responsibility at the beginning of the work week. A Moon-Mercury sextile eases conversation.
The Sun opposes Neptune on Tuesday, September 19. This could lure us into a martyr or victim role; another expression is that it brings out compassion and caring. It also lifts us into inspired states of awareness. How might you fly on an angel’s wings? In addition, Jupiter opposes the Scorpio Moon, and they are both squared by Venus. This T-square may make us feel that what we want is out of reach. A Moon-Uranus opposition later in the day may enable us to break free of encumbrances. The Scorpio Moon may stir up a lot of emotions in this active day.
Benefic aspects to the Scorpio Moon color early Wednesday morning easy. At 7:05 a.m. PDT the Moon bounces into freedom-oriented Sagittarius. The Sun trines Pluto, encouraging a powerful work day. Saturn’s trine to Ceres strengthens the bonds of relationships.
The energetic, adventurous Sagittarius Moon makes benefic aspects to Mars, Venus, and Chiron on Thursday, September 21. Catch some sun in the outdoors. Make travel plans, and read something inspiring.
Friday morning, September 22, is optimistic and expansive. Friday afternoon at 1:20 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Capricorn and the tone changes toward serious hard work. This is not meant to be a weekend of play. The Fall Equinox occurs at 11:49 p.m. PDT, when the Sun reaches 0 degrees of Libra, and darkness and light of day are equal. This ingress of the Sun into Libra marks the end of summer and the beginning of Fall.
The Capricorn Moon colors Saturday, September 24, for work, augmented by trines to Mercury and Jupiter. Whistle while you work, and plan to get a lot accomplished.
Sunday is full of dynamic aspects, but is anything but relaxing. The Moon trines Uranus, squares, Eris, and conjuncts Pluto. There may be some unplanned diversions in the day, as well as some strong emotions and upset that emerge. Aim to get some work done and go about it independently. Gather with friends for Sunday dinner after the Moon has entered Aquarius at 4:29 p.m. PDT.
Monday is an agreeable, friendly day. Innovative ideas flow. This would be a good day for meetings. Have coffee or lunch with a friend or colleague.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
