In the Stars August 27-September 3, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun moved into Virgo tropically on August 23rd, highlighting themes of self-improvement, attention to health, cleanliness, and organization. This is the month to tidy up and get your life in order. It is also the time to get back to school, and work on goals for self-improvement, including diet and exercise. This week several planets change direction. Mercury just turned retrograde on August 23rd. Mercury’s three-week retrograde period is a time for review and revision, but not for moving things forward. Uranus turns retrograde on Monday, August 28. Venus turns direct in motion on September 3, and Jupiter turns retrograde on September 4th. By September 4th, seven planets will be retrograde: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. All this retrograde energy invites an interior, reflective, intuitive focus.

Pluto continues to square the nodal axis which recently shifted into Aries/Libra. The North Node aligns with Eris, adding bold, dynamic energy into this T-square. This Pluto-Eris-Nodal Axis alignment invites us to let go of clutter, patterns, or relationships that no longer serve. We are called to a higher vibration that results from cleaning things up or giving things up.

A Moon-Jupiter trine on Sunday, August 27, lifts our spirits. The Capricorn Moon trines Mercury and Uranus, restoring confidence and giving brilliance as well as industry for some hard work. Mars ingresses into Libra, not its most congenial placement, as Mars is aggressive, and Libra is diplomatic.

A Moon-Pluto conjunction early Monday morning powers up the day. The Moon moves into Aquarius at 7:31 a.m. PDT, highlighting a time for friendships and group activities. Uranus is stationary, turning retrograde, so the weird energy of this outer planet is strong. Uranus will be retrograde for the next five months until January 27th. Expect the unexpected on Monday.

Tuesday, August 29th, my birthday, is graced by a friendly Aquarius Moon. The day’s hard aspects to the Moon may lead us toward more independent activities, even though the Aquarius Moon is people-oriented. We may feel pulled in numerous directions given the Moon’s opposition to Venus and squares to Jupiter and Uranus. It is likely to be a lively day of unexpected diversions and opportunities.

The Moon reaches its fullness on Wednesday, August 30. The Pisces Moon is conjunct Saturn, giving a serious, sober tone to the day. We may feel a bit depressed by the reality that summer vacation is ending, and it is back to work and school. However, Virgo is quite satisfied to be working, so this lunation with Saturn serves us well if we tend to our responsibilities.

Thursday, the last day of August, is sweet, optimistic, creative day. The Pisces Moon sextiles Jupiter early in the day, and sextiles Uranus later in the day. These alignments are expansive and inventive. The evening hours are influenced by a Moon-Neptune conjunction after midnight, inviting us into a dream-filled sleep.

The first day of September, Friday, starts off with a bang with the Moon in Aries! The Moon opposes Mars in Libra. A Mars-Saturn quincunx aspect may generate frustration. Saturn slows us down to solve problems tenaciously and thoroughly. Expect some challenges, and meet them consciously with patience and diplomacy.

The Aries Moon trines Venus in Leo on Saturday, September 2, putting a pleasant bounce in the day. The Moon conjuncts Chiron and opposes Ceres, making for some emotional sensitivity. The day ends with a stormy Moon-Eris conjunction. Aries is a cardinal, action-oriented zodiacal sign, so much can be accomplished by harnessing initiative.

Sunday, September 3, starts with a boom due to a tense Moon-Pluto square. Then the Moon moves into its place of exaltation in Taurus where it is calm and practical. Venus makes a station to move direct, giving the day an extra strong, pleasurable Venusian tone. Relationships may be clarified and highlighted.

This weekend Sunday invites gardening, cooking, and leisure. Color it beautiful.

Monday’s big news is that Jupiter turns retrograde for the next four months. Stationary Jupiter amplifies this planet’s symbolism of philosophy, belief systems, higher learning, optimism, and good fortune. This is a relatively easy day thanks to a Sun-Moon trine, a Moon-Mercury trine, and a Moon-Jupiter conjunction. There will likely be some surprises before the day’s end due to a Moon-Uranus conjunction in the evening. Expect the day to go differently than planned.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
