In the Stars May 17-24, 2020...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon

The Sun moves into Gemini this week on Wednesday, May 20th. The retrograde brigade gains yet another member, asteroid Pallas Athena on Monday. This asteroid joins Saturn, Pluto, Venus, and Jupiter in backward motion. With this heavy dose of retrograde motion, it is difficult to march forward. Sheltering-in -place is affirmed by the retrograde planets, and it may be a slow, gradual climb back to the opening up of the world. During the time these planets are in retrograde, it is a good time to study, learn a new skill, and to work on projects that require research, focus, or concentration. A New Moon forms on Friday, June 2, a day to set intentions around communication, connections, and learning.

Sunday is a bright and bold new day with the Moon entering action-oriented, fiery Aries early in the morning. Jovial Jupiter makes an easy trine to the Sun, lifting our spirits. The Moon conjuncts Chiron, drawing us to the vibrant aspects of life that make us feel whole. The asteroid Pallas Athena stations, turning retrograde, becoming the fifth planetary body now in retrograde motion.

Monday’s stage is set for adventure. While there are not many places we can go, find a place where you can take a hike or vigorous walk. The Aries Moon makes an opportune sextile to Venus. Channel your passion into a new, engaging project, and give special attention to those you love.

Tuesday morning calls for action and getting things done—until the Moon goes void of course at 1:32 p.m. Tension grows with Tuesday morning’s squares of the Moon to Jupiter and Pluto. Use the challenging energy to lean in and work hard. Focus on routine tasks not requiring decisions in the afternoon. At 7:10 p.m. the Moon moves into Taurus, just in time to enjoy a delicious dinner that pleases the senses. Set a beautiful table, and take it easy the rest of the evening.

The Sun ingresses into Gemini on Wednesday morning, ushering in a month of curiosity and conversation. A Moon-Uranus conjunction brings fresh ideas and perhaps a few surprises. A Venus-Neptune square softens our focus and calls us to dream.

The Moon in Taurus is dark on Thursday before tomorrow’s New Moon. When the Moon is dark, we want to draw inward and take extra time for ourselves. Of course, we’ve been drawing inward for some time. The Taurus Moon trines Pluto, Pallas Athena, and Jupiter, making for strong, productive work.

A new lunar cycle begins on Friday with the New Moon in early Gemini. Friday is another productive work day with the Sun and Saturn in a flowing aspect. Innovation combines with curiosity. Mercury and Venus are conjunct in agile, clever Gemini, as well. We can see new ways of doing things.

Saturday is a stimulating, social day. We want to connect with friends and engage in conversation. If you cannot do this in person, then engage in a Zoom social hour. There are now five planets in Gemini, many making a square aspect to Neptune. You may feel scattered, so allow it to be so and follow your energy to new discoveries.

The Moon is void of course in Gemini most of the day. Take it easy and indulge yourself in a good read. Call your siblings. Write a letter. At 4:08 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Cancer. Cook some nourishing comfort food and pamper yourself as you cap the weekend.

Monday is an action-oriented day with the cardinal Cancer Moon aspecting Ceres, Uranus, Mars, and Chiron. Get going and get vigorous exercise. Our focus may be on nurturing and supporting others, and attending to home and family matters.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
