In the Stars December 5-12, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week

The Sun shines in the enthusiastic sign of Sagittarius tropically for two more weeks. Neptune turned direct on Wednesday, December 1, giving inspiration, imagination, and vision. The Total Solar Eclipse just occurred December 3-4. Although eclipse season is behind us, there are numerous noteworthy planetary events in December. While the Sagittarius Sun sets the stage for a sparkling holiday season, there are several challenging planetary alignments.

Ongoing the skies hold the tense energy of the Eris-Pluto square, and the Saturn-Uranus square which will reach its third exact aspect December 23rd at 11 degrees of Aquarius-Taurus.

Venus conjuncts Pluto for the rest of December, sparking deep feelings. Venus turns retrograde on December 20th, and December 24-26 Venus and Pluto are exactly conjunct at 25 degrees of Capricorn. The Christmas holidays will be fueled with passion.

Mars conjuncts the South Node, also known as Ketu in Vedic astrology. This conjunction marks the beginning of a long Kala Sarpa Yoga period (a Vedic Astrology alignment) when all of the planets are hemmed in between the North and South Nodes, except for the two weeks each month when the Moon breaks through. This is a tense, restrictive energy which will be in effect from December 13, 2021, until April 24, 2022.

On December 18th the Moon reaches its fullness at 27:28 Sagittarius, the place of the Galactic Center (of note, also the degree of the Moon in my horoscope). The Winter Solstice is December 21 when the Sun moves into Capricorn tropically.

Financial astrologer Ray Merriman noted in his December 3rd newsletter: “In a classic example of a Saturn/Uranus waning square ‘black swan’ event, world stock indices cracked on Friday. COVID-19 reared its ugly head with yet another new variant from South Africa. This provides a stunning warning of what the Venus retrograde, conjunct Pluto, and the third and final exact waning square of Saturn/Uranus, December 19 and 24, is all about.”

Sunday is an industrious day with the Capricorn Moon at work. You could accomplish a lot, be it Christmas shopping, baking, home decorating, or card writing, all in a frugal, efficient manner. The Moon trines Uranus Sunday evening, signaling that it is time to take a break and do something different.

Monday promises an industrious start to the work week with the Moon in Capricorn. There is a lot of energy for diving deep and figuring things out with Mars (in Scorpio) sextile to Pluto (in Capricorn). On the other hand, as the day wears on, things get emotionally complicated as the Moon triggers the Eris-Pluto square. Issues of control rise up and may make trouble, so try to stay clear of possible trouble.

Tuesday is rife with challenge and tension, full of edgy square aspects and an emotionally difficult Moon-Saturn conjunction. Mercury squares Neptune, Venus squares Eris, and Moon squares Uranus. If these challenges are not enough, Mercury squares Neptune, making communications difficult and obscuring clarity. Mars squares Jupiter, leading to overreaction and overextension. Squares do produce energy for getting things done, so the best thing to do with this energy is to be active and put it to work, meanwhile navigating challenges.

In contrast to yesterday, Wednesday is an easy-going day, holding only benefic sextiles. With the Moon in Aquarius, we want space and independence. Concerns with life’s greater social issues is of concern. This is a good day for making donations to favorite causes.

The Moon moves into Pisces on Thursday, fostering forgiveness, inspiration, and ease.

Friday is a soft, quiet day on the planetary front. The Moon conjuncts Neptune, inspiring us and lifting us toward ideals. This is a good night to watch a movie. Then turn in for the night and catch some dreams.

Saturday holds a lot of strong feelings as Venus conjuncts Pluto. Use Saturday morning’s creativity and inspiration for wrapping presents or writing cards. The Moon bolts into Aries in the afternoon (1: 46 p.m. PDT), calling for independence and taking some risks, or striking out boldly to do what you want to do.

Take time for self-care on Sunday in the light of the Moon-Chiron conjunction. With the Moon in Aries we are moved to adventure. Take a hike or go on a spontaneous outing. A Moon-Saturn benefic sextile fosters a sense of accomplishment.

Mars ingresses into optimistic Sagittarius on Monday and conjoins the South Node. Mercury ingresses into cautious Capricorn. The Moon conjoins Eris and squares the Pluto-Venus conjunction. A Moon-Jupiter benefic sextile can ease tensions and bring it all together. Monday could be a volatile, significant day. Make it count.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
