In the Stars January 28-February 4, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun and Pluto are now in Aquarius tropically. Mars, Mercury, and Venus are in the industrious sign of Capricorn. Saturn, symbolizing work and responsibility, is the ruler of both Capricorn and Aquarius (ancient ruler of Aquarius). Mars is exalted in Capricorn, giving strong energy for efficient output of work through February 12.

In addition to this significant shift of Pluto into Aquarius, we approach a Dragon Year in Chinese astrology that begins February 9th, making for tremendous creative opportunities. The Chinese Dragon represents authority, prosperity, and good fortune. The Chinese honor a tradition of thoroughly cleaning house before the Chinese New Year. This is a beneficial tradition for welcoming new energy. With the Moon in Virgo this weekend, it is an excellent time for cleaning and organizing in preparation for the new year commencing February 9th.

_______

Although Sunday, January 28, is the Sabbath, a day of rest, rather this Sunday astrologically is an industrious work day. Most likely you feel the call to clean, organize, and check tasks off your list. The Virgo Moon amplifies the benefic trine aspect of Venus in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus, especially in the early morning hours. At the end of the day, you will be amazed at how much you have accomplished, and how much you enjoyed it.

Monday’s main event is a Mars-Uranus trine in earth signs. This is an innovative, creative combination capable of hard work and breakthroughs.  As the afternoon wears on, the Moon opposes Neptune, softening our focus. We drift into a gracious, relaxing evening, satisfied with the many accomplishments of the last few days.

The Moon is void of course all of Tuesday morning, January 30, making it difficult to get going definitively. Focus on routine tasks until the Moon moves into Libra at 12:03 p.m. PST. A Moon-Pluto trine fuels drive and intention and gets us moving in the afternoon. A Moon-Venus square may unsettle relationships, but the Moon’s trine to the Sun gives equilibrium.

The Libra Moon seeks harmony, but is challenged by the needs of the Chiron-Moon opposition on Wednesday, January 31. Interactions may be testy, aggravated by the Moon’s square to Mars and an Eris-Mercury-Moon T-square.  Use the Libra Moon’s ability to see the perspectives of different sides and mediate differences to manage the day’s challenges.

Thursday, the first day of February, gets off to a slow, meandering start due to a void of course Moon from 1:02 a.m.-12:36 p.m. PST. The Moon moves into the deep, murky waters of Scorpio at 12:36 p.m. PST, churning up strong feelings stirred by the Moon’s square to Pluto. A Mars-Saturn semi-square contributes to the angst. Take some solitude and find appropriate ways to blow off steam.

Mercury makes a benefic sextile to Neptune on Friday, February 2, softening and amplifying thoughts and conversation. This is a poetic aspect, so if you are so inclined to write poetry, this would be a great day to do it. Or, play music, or enjoy a concert. Thoughts are transported to the imaginal realm. The Moon opposes Jupiter and sextiles Venus, brightening our afternoon and evening. Enjoy a sweet, expansive outing with your beloved.

Saturday, February 3, is an easy day, supported by benefic aspects to the Moon (sextiles to Mars, Mercury, and Neptune). Allow yourself to spend this weekend time engaging with your passionate interests.

The Moon is in Sagittarius on Sunday and Monday, February 4-5. Sunday invites adventure, but Saturn’s square to the Moon mid-day demands discipline.  A vigorous hike nearby would suit. It would also be a good day to make travel plans. Mercury moves into Aquarius in the evening for the next 19 days, opening our minds to think outside the box and expand possibilities.

Mercury conjuncts Pluto on Monday, February 5th, giving power of concentration. Secrets may be revealed; conversations run deep. The day holds mixed aspects (Moon sextile Sun; Venus square Chiron; Mars square Eris; Moon square Neptune). Yet, the Sagittarius Moon is ruled by expansive Jupiter, so optimism prevails. Apply the alignments to projects requiring considered thought.

Thursday: Moon VoC 1:02 a.m.-12:36 p.m. Feelings run deep and hot in the afternoon and evening. Take some solitude.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
