In the Stars January 7-14, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

As of January 2nd, all planets are direct except Uranus. We can get a lot of traction on work and goals for 2024 with the Sun, Mars, and Pluto in industrious Capricorn. The Sun’s trine to Uranus, exact on January 9th, invites new ideas and innovations as we set goals and work to create a new vision for 2024.

Mars ingressed into Capricorn on Thursday, January 4, where it will be until February 12. In Capricorn Mar is exalted, giving strong energy for efficient output of work for the next five weeks. Mars went out of bounds on December 22, and will have a short period in this outer realm through January 23. When a planet is out of bounds, at the peak of its declination cycle, its symbolism is amplified. With Mars this shows up as increased potential for violence and conflict, as well as for taking risks and making strides.

Early Sunday morning, January 7, a gentle Moon-Neptune trine offers hope and inspiration. We are invited into deeper intimacy as a result of a Moon-Pluto sextile. At 1:08 p.m. PST the Moon bounces into Sagittarius; however, its usual exuberance is tempered by a Moon-Saturn square, reminding us of our duties and responsibilities.

Monday’s Moon-Venus conjunction in Sagittarius pulls us away from work obligations toward social engagement. A Mercury-Neptune square exaggerates the desire to pause from our responsibilities toward lofty, imaginative matters. Take one more day of vacation, if possible.

Tuesday is packed with astrological potential for planning, adventure, and change. A stable Mars-Saturn sextile provides grounding for exciting things to happen. The Sag Moon’s zest for adventure is ignited by a conjunction with Mercury and a trine to Eris. A Moon-Neptune square widens our imagination. A Sun-Uranus square in earth signs Capricorn and Taurus, respectively, may bring an unexpected event, or beckon us to try a new pathway. This is a great day to plan a new venture or journey to a new place. Just after midnight PST into Wednesday, the Moon will make supportive aspects to Saturn (sextile), Mars (conjunct), and Jupiter (trine), a great combination for later-night work. These aspects set Tuesday and Wednesday for success.

Wednesday, January 10, the Sun is at the midpoint of the Nodal axis, illuminating imbalances between individual and relational aspects of our lives. A Moon-Chiron square may churn up emotional sensitivities. Wednesday and Thursday are strong work days with Sun, Moon, Pluto, and exalted Mars in Capricorn. Make the most of this cardinal earth energy.

January’s New Moon forms at 3:57 a.m. PST at 20:44 Capricorn (tropically). It is closely trine to Uranus, thus, new expressions of life may emerge, or at least a break from routine. It would be good to use this energy to create new goals and innovative ways to reach them. Later in the day the Moon squares Eris, the planet of discontent, and Pluto, the planet of death, rebirth, and transformation. This is a day with big potential for moving mountains and making change. May it be so!

Friday is exuberant, buoyed by a Mars-Jupiter trine in earth signs. You can make far-reaching, successful strides in your life. The Moon is in Aquarius, and in a benefic sextile to Venus in the evening, making it an opportune time to gather with assorted friends.

Saturday may go differently than planned due to an early morning Moon-Uranus square. With the Moon in Aquarius we could leave the schedule open today to allow for diversions and spontaneity. It is a good day to meet up with friends. However, after the Moon moves into Pisces at 7:26 p.m. PST, we will want to relax and immerse ourselves in a movie.

Sunday is a carefree day for dreaming and creating. The Moon makes a benefic sextile to Jupiter and Mars, giving optimism, expansiveness, and exuberance which may be tempered by the Sun-Eris square that can trigger frustration and angst.

Monday is a relatively soft, easy day. The Capricorn Sun makes a benefic sextile to Neptune, creating a compassionate, creative landscape. The Pisces Moon sextiles Uranus, inviting us to dream differently. Then the Moon conjuncts Neptune, amplifying imagination, centering us on the love in our hearts. The Moon’s sextile to Pluto fuels the intent to end the day with acts of kindness and caring.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
