In the Stars July 3-10, 2022 . . . shining light on the astrology of the week

With the Sun in Cancer for the month ahead, the focus is on home and family, including motherhood. Abortion issues are front and center with the recent decision of the Supreme Court. Volatile planetary aspects between Mars and Eris in Aries, square to Pluto in Capricorn are at play this week. There are plenty of issues that could become more explosive: the January 6th investigation, the overturning of Roe vs. Wade, critical primary elections, the Russia-Ukraine War, and gun violence.

The crackle and pop of Independence Day celebrations likely will provoke tension in political and social issues in the culture, as well as in families.

Sunday through Tuesday morning the Moon shines in Virgo, signaling the time of the month to clean up and get organized. An early morning Moon-Mars trine lights a fire and propels us to get moving.

Monday, July 4th is Independence Day, typically a day of parades and gatherings. The Virgo Moon will drive us to attend to chores and practical matters before relaxing into celebrations.

Energies are mixed on Tuesday. The industrious Virgo Moon opposes Neptune, a compromising combination that invites relaxation, and may drive us to put responsibilities and demands aside. However, Pluto trines the Virgo Moon a little later and guides us back to the work obligations before us. Yet, we are pulled in different directions, and may lose focus. It may be difficult to resolve disagreements. The planetary alignments bring a number of compromises and opportunities. It may be fascinating to do a review at the end of the day and observe where your intentions and energies have been drawn. The Moon is void of course from 11:03 a.m. to 3:24 p.m., adding to the diversions. Then the Moon moves into Libra, making us more easily influenced by others.

Relationships are a focus on Wednesday, influenced by both supportive and challenging aspects. Wounds and feelings may bubble to the surface to be addressed. An edgy Mercury-Uranus aspect may bring some unexpected twists in conversation. A Moon-Venus trine later in the day will help smooth things over. The Libra Moon loves elegance and manners, so sprinkle some in your day.

While harmony is a top priority for the Libra Moon, Thursday’s lunar aspects are testy and difficult. The Moon opposes Eris and squares Pluto, and in the evening opposes Mars. Aim to channel the kind, objective, mediating tones of the Libra Moon to overcome the discordant, volatile energies at play.

We swim in the deep waters of feelings on Friday with the Moon in Scorpio. A Moon-Mercury trine may bring breakthroughs in conversation, though the Cancer Sun-square-Chiron in Aries may bring up hard feelings. A Mercury-Jupiter square may lead us to jump to conclusions, but this tendency will be aided by Scorpio’s desire to ponder deeply before proceeding.

Saturday is an edgy, emotional day. A Moon-Uranus opposition may deliver a few curve balls, followed by the sobering Moon-Saturn square that reminds us of responsibilities and limitations. Help arrives to deal with the challenges from benefic aspects of the Moon to Neptune and Pluto later in the day.

Sunday is a more uplifting day, buoyed by the optimism and joy of the Sagittarius Moon. A Sun-Uranus sextile adds some spice, and a Moon-Jupiter trine calls for adventure. This is an exuberant day. Expand your horizons and explore outdoors. I’ll be whale watching in the Pacific Northwest’s San Juan Islands.

We embark on a new week energetically with confidence and a willingness to take risks. We may want to relax in the evening as the Moon squares Neptune and compromises our energy.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Get moving and get organized before tomorrow's holiday.

Monday: Attend to chores and practical matters before engaging in celebrations.

Tuesday: Mixed energies in different modes and directions. The Virgo Moon will keep order in the midst of chaos.

Wednesday: Relationships are a focus. Twists and turns in conversation will benefit from kindness and decorum.

Thursday: Testy, discordant, volatile energies color the beauty of the day as it wears on. Try to be kind and understanding.

Friday: Deep feelings surface. Communication breakthroughs are possible. Take time to ponder.

Saturday: The day may not go as planned, and we are reminded of responsibilities and limitations.

Sunday: Uplifting day. Answer the call for adventure. Make future travel plans.

Monday: Energetic, confident start to the work week. Relax in the evening.

Ten Things to Do with the Venus in Gemini (June 21- July 18) 1. Exchange books with neighbors that lead you in new directions.

2. Exercise flexibility in relationship.

3. Pick up the phone and connect with someone with whom you’ve been out of touch.

4. Acknowledge the variety expressions of love in your everyday life.

5. Write letters. (or email).

6. Plan a short trip.

7. Take an internet excursion and make at least three new discoveries.

8. Explore your surroundings and discover something new.

9. Connect with aunts, uncles, or cousins.

10. Think (and act) more flexibly with money matters—learn something new by listening to a book on tape about finances (you can get it from your local library) while driving.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
