In the Stars July 9-16, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun is in Cancer through July 2 , symbolized by the crab, focusing us on home and family. Picnics and family gatherings call us, as does gardening and sprucing up our homes.

Neptune is now retrograde, along with Pluto and Saturn that are already in retrograde, drawing us into a more interior, reflective, intuitive focus.

Venus is nearing its station to turn retrograde on July 22nd until September 3. This is somewhat unusual, as Venus turns retrograde only once in every 32 months. Venus, the planet symbolizing love, art, and beauty, will stand in the hot, passionate, creative sign Leo. Relationships may be shaken up, revealing values and unfolding desires.

Sunday, July 9th, is an active day that calls for adventure. Several challenging aspects would be well served with physical activity. Nurture yourself with an activity that will boost your confidence.

On Monday, July 10th, Mars moves into Virgo where it will be through August 26th. Here the planet of action is concerned about precision and ethics, and loves exercise and healthy attention to the body. Mercury and Pluto are in opposition, drawing us into deep exploration and conversation. The Moon moves into Taurus late afternoon at 4:56 p.m. PDT, calming emotions, and tempting us with sensual pleasures. A Moon-Mars trine gives courage to face issues.

Tuesday, July 11th, is a glorious day with the Moon exalted in Taurus, and conjunct Jupiter. We are confident and satisfied with life’s best treats. Mercury squares the nodal axis and Mars trines the North Node, both aspects drawing attention toward our higher selves and giving wisdom to make necessary changes.

Insecurities and wounds could surface on Wednesday, July 12th, as a result of the Cancer Sun’s square to Chiron. The grounded, sensual Taurus Moon connects with the Venus-Uranus square. Matters of love and money may be open for change. The Moon’s benefic aspects to Neptune and Pluto help us trust our intuition and solve problems.

The Moon is in chatty Gemini on Thursday, July 13th, so we’ll have much to say. When the Moon is in this dual sign, there is a lot of activity. We can become easily irritated by the Moon’s squares to Saturn and Mars. A benefic Moon-Mercury sextile will help calm frustrations. The day beckons activity and curiosity.

The Sun and Uranus make a benefic sextile on Friday, July 14th, putting a surprising twist on the day. With the Moon in Gemini, create a social evening set for engaging conversations.

Saturday morning may get off to a slow and dreamy start due to a Moon-Neptune conjunction. The Moon enters home and family-oriented Cancer at 10:12 a.m. PDT. We feel some support from a Moon-Mars sextile and a Moon-Saturn trine as the day wears on. The afternoon offers sound energy for addressing household chores.

Take advantage of the Moon-Jupiter sextile on Sunday, July 16th. Lightness, ease, and optimism support family attention and activities. The Moon is dark, so take some time and space for yourself.

A New Moon forms on Monday, July 17th at 24:56 degrees of Cancer tropically. The Nodal Axis changes signs from Taurus/Scorpio to Aries/Libra with the North Node moving into Aries and the South Node into Libra. The day is volatile with the New Moon squaring Eris and opposite Pluto. This could be a day of sweeping changes and big transformations.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
