In the Stars November 12-19, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

A Mars-Uranus opposition on Saturday, November 11, colors the days ahead. This is a volatile, revolutionary, accident-prone aspect, so move mindfully and carefully. Its positive potential is creative problem solving and building new structures in your life. The Moon darkens in Scorpio, signaling a time for solitude and deep thought.

The New Moon perfects on Monday, closely aspecting Mars and Uranus. The day is turbulent and will surely come with some surprises and disruptions.

Mars and the Sun will be conjunct in Scorpio from 0-2 degrees for two weeks, and in close opposition to Uranus. This Mars-Sun conjunction is extremely volatile. Mars symbolizes anger, heat, and aggression. The next two weeks will likely be turbulent. Venus in its ruling sign Libra helps to temper the Mars energy, as Venus in this cardinal air sign is peaceful and loving. Use the strong Mars energy to be courageous. Tackle a big project. Direct your energy into work and accomplishment rather than aggression toward others.

Saturday’s (November 11) main aspect is a revolutionary Mars-Uranus opposition at 21:08 degrees Scorpio (Mars)-Taurus (Uranus). This is an explosive, accident-prone aspect, so go carefully and thoughtfully. The day begins with a volatile Moon-Mars square, and then the Moon enters the deep, murky waters of Scorpio. Given the tension and strife in the world, we may see an escalation of violence on this tense day. Use the energy positively to solve a posing problem or do some demanding, creative work. Stay safe and be careful. This is not a good day for risk-taking.

A Moon-Jupiter opposition in the early morning (4:08 a.m. PST) Sunday, November 12, colors the day expansive. The rest of the day is quiet, good for the Scorpio Moon that loves solitude. We are at the darkest of the Moon, a time to draw within before a new cycle begins. The Moon’s position invites us to take some alone time. You might want to research a matter of deep interest.

The New Moon in Scorpio occurs at 1:27 a.m. PST at 20:43 degrees on Monday, November 13. This lunation connects with the Mars-Uranus opposition that perfected two days earlier at 21:08 degrees, only 23 minutes from the New Moon. This is a potent, volatile New Moon that will undoubtedly bring some surprises. The Moon later trines Neptune, offering resolution and healing. New Moons invite goal-setting for the month ahead. Look to where you have Scorpio in your horoscope and focus intention in that area of your life.

Tuesday, November 14, should be a buoyant, expressive day with the Moon and Mercury in Sagittarius, and sextile to Venus. This is a good day for social connections. A Moon-Chiron trine in the evening encourages self-care.

Wednesday, November 15 is another expansive, expressive day. However, the Moon’s square to Neptune and a Mercury-Jupiter quincunx contribute to confused thinking. Communication may not go as well as we would like. Think before you speak and express opinions. On this day I honor the births of my brother, Gehrig Coleman, and my maternal grandfather, Herbert Walz.

We are beckoned to work hard and tend to responsibilities on Thursday, November 16, in the light of the Capricorn Moon. The day is unsettling, though, as there are three aspects to Eris that may sow discontent. The Moon’s trine to Jupiter does help lift our moods.

Friday is energized by the Sun’s conjunction with Mars, and their trine to Neptune. This planetary alignment draws out compassion and humanitarianism, and the world sure could use some now. Yet Friday, especially in the evening, rumbles with strong aspects (Moon trine Uranus; Moon square Eris; Moon sextile Neptune and Mars; Sun conjunct Mars; and Moon conjunct Pluto) that could shake us out of our comfort zones to address tension. Harness this strong energy and make it an industrious day.

Saturday and Sunday, November 19-21, are days colored by a cool, detached Aquarius Moon that enables us to disengage from tension. It calls us to friendship and meet-ups with old and new friends. Saturday’s Moon-Jupiter square generates enthusiasm and makes us prone to excess and overextension. Sunday’s Moon-Uranus square fosters independence and may take us off course. It could also lead us to new discoveries. In the wee hours of Monday the Aquarius Moon squares the Sun, Mars, and Ceres, perhaps disturbing sleep.

Monday morning the Moon enters Pisces at 6:29 a.m. PST and aligns with Saturn, calling for a serious, disciplined start to the day. The Sun and Ceres conjunct and sextile Pluto, reinforcing strong, familial bonds in relationships. Healing conversations are supported by Mercury’s trine to Chiron. A benefic Moon-Jupiter sextile in the evening gives hope and lifts our spirits.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Optimistic, quiet day. Take some solitude. Ponder a matter of deep interest.

Monday: New Moon in Scorpio. Expect something surprising. Set new intentions.

Tuesday: Buoyant, expressive day that supports social engagements.

Wednesday: Expansive day, but communication may be confusing. Think before speaking and be judicious about sharing your opinions.

Thursday: Lean into work and responsibilities. Allow discontent to be lifted with optimism.

Friday: Energetic, industrious day filled with tension, and also compassion.

Saturday: While you may feel overextended, you can detach from the world’s tension. Join together with friends.

Sunday: The need for freedom and independence are strong. Diversions and surprises may take us off course.

Monday: Start the work week with a strong work ethic. Healing conversations are possible. Hope and optimism lift our spirits later in the day.

Ten Things to Do with the Venus in Libra (November 7-December 4)

Listen to provocative music that taps into deep feelings. 6. Purge your stuff and give things away. 7. Get a massage. 8. Listen deeply, and say only what is necessary. 9. Read a deep, transformative biography, or a mystery. 10. Take some solitude.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
