In the Stars October 31-November 7, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon

The Sun continues to shine in the fixed water sign Scorpio, symbolizing emotional depths, secrets, finances linked with others, death, and transformation. It is apt that Halloween and the Day of the Dead fall in this month. Scorpio corresponds to the fixed season of autumn when days are growing shorter and trees are losing their leaves. With growing darkness and colder weather we feel like drawing inward. This is a month to withdraw and rest before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season arrives when the Sun is in enthusiastic, outgoing Sagittarius.

The ancient ruler of Scorpio is Mars, and the sign of Scorpio symbolizes death. A current culture event with Scorpionic symbolism is the accidental shooting death on stage in Alec Baldwin’s film Rust. Personally, I know of a suicide, a near-death bike accident. There are often more acts of violence in April when the Sun is in Aries, and in late October-November when the Sun is in Scorpio. There are likely to be more acts of violence this week with several planetary aspects such as the Moon-Mars conjunction and the Eris-Mercury-Pluto T-square on Wednesday, November 4th and the New Moon in Scorpio opposite Uranus-square-Saturn. The week ahead is one to go carefully and mindfully, and not to take unnecessary risks. Direct the volatile energy into a demanding project.

Next weekend will be a lighter in the glow of the upbeat Sagittarius Moon and easier aspects. You can then relax after a challenging week.

Halloween, the last day of October may have some nice surprises in store, as the Virgo Moon trines Uranus. Continue the clean-up that you started yesterday, and get organized for the week ahead. A benefic Mercury-Jupiter trine invites conversation.

Monday, November 1, is the Day of the Dead, a day intended for honoring our loved ones who have crossed over. Do something special such as setting up an altar to honor them. We lean into the work week on Monday morning with powerful intentions invited by a Moon-Pluto trine. The Moon is void of course for most of the day, so tend to routine tasks and make the day count. The evening heats up as the Moon makes edgy aspects to Eris and Pluto. Mercury and Pluto make an exact square tomorrow, bringing up secrets and buried issues to address.

A Moon-Saturn trine Tuesday morning serves to ground the day, but a Moon-Chiron opposition can make us more sensitive to hurts. We want to be sociable in the light of the Libra Moon, but the day is jagged and edgy, and may be uncomfortable.

Wednesday is a steamy, explosive day. The Moon aligns with the Mercury-Eris-Pluto T-square. Emotional intensity increases with the Moon’s movement into Scorpio at 5:53 p.m., and the fiery energy further intensifies when the Moon conjuncts Mars. Use this hot energy to petal to the metal on a demanding project, and check your heated feelings.

Thursday could be a big day of shifts and change. The New Moon in Scorpio exactly opposes Uranus and squares Saturn. Yes, the New Moon ignites the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square that is all about breakthroughs and innovation. The New Moon is quintile (72 degrees) to Pluto, amplifying the energy for dramatic change. Quintiles offer creative opportunities. At the very least, honor the day by pursuing new pathways, meeting new people, and doing things differently. Set intentions for big changes in your life, positive ones, of course.

We are still dealing with the intense energies of yesterday’s New Moon on Friday. A Moon-Jupiter square amplifies effects. Mercury moves into Scorpio for the next three weeks, inviting us to dive deep into issues and what might be behind the scenes. The Moon is void of course all day from 9:09 a.m. until 5:52 p.m. PDT. During this time focus on routine tasks rather than meetings or doing anything requiring decisions. At 5:52 p.m. the Moon bounces into sunny Sagittarius, lifting us into an expansive evening.

With the Moon in enthusiastic Sagittarius, we are called to adventure on Saturday. Sagittarius loves the outdoors and rules the thighs, so a bike ride or hike would be satisfying. Mercury and Venus are in a benefic sextile. Delight in a social evening of conversation with friends.

The Moon is Void of Course most of the day Sunday from 5:43 a.m. through 5:03 p.m. PDT, inviting us to take the day off and go on a hike or outdoor adventure. The Moon moves into Capricorn at 5:03 p.m. PDT. A Moon-Venus conjunction and a benefic Moon-Mercury sextile foster easy conversation and connection.

The hard-working, driven Capricorn Moon invites us into the work week on Monday with industrious energy. The Moon makes a benefic trine to Uranus, perhaps taking us off track or bringing an element of surprise.

Monday: Industrious day for hard work. Be prepared to be taken by surprise.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
