In the Stars August 28-September 5, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week

The Sun is in mutable/flexible earth sign Virgo. Virgo is sensible, hard-working, and focused. Grounded in its gifts, we can address the tasks before us and get a lot accomplished in the next three weeks. The Virgo Sun may help us manage the chaos of the world today.

The week ahead continues to hold the volatility and destructive energies of weeks past, perhaps more so. We are in the midst of the crisis of Afghanistan; the surging, continuing pandemic, now affecting more young people.; and the vaccine vs. the anti-vaccine stance that makes for a healthcare challenge and political battle. Powerful Hurricane Ida is headed for the New Orleans area on Monday, as of this writing. Fires rage in the west, confronting us with the disastrous climate crisis. We are in the midst of the ongoing Saturn-Uranus dynamic of change.

Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are all retrograde for the next two months, and some of them throughout the rest of 2021. Mercury joins them from September 27 through October 18. Retrograde energy is strong, but more inwardly focused. With all these planets retrograde there may be little progress for the next few months on the larger global problems that are looming. This is a good time to pull back and re-think things.

Set up a plan for the day early Sunday morning. After the Moon moves into Gemini at 9:42 a.m. we may be distracted. Allow your energy to flow with this somewhat disorganized day. It may turn out to be a day of amazing discoveries. And it’s my birthday!

Against the backdrop of Monday’s Taurus Moon we turn toward sensual pleasure. The main aspect of the day is a Sun-Ceres square, highlighting family and nurturing concerns. A late night Moon-Venus trine enables new levels of understanding, and kisses the day with beauty and sweetness,

Tuesday's Moon-Neptune-Mars T-square in mutable signs can make us feel scattered and going in different directions. An optimistic Moon-trine-Jupiter marks the beginning of the Moon's void of course period from 1:48 p.m. to 10:25 p.m. PDT, a time when things don’t come together. Use this time for routine tasks, reading, or insignificant matters.

September begins on Wednesday with the Moon in soothing, compassionate, comfortable Cancer, but it is a day of mixed energies, both supportive and challenging. Hard feelings may need to be addressed.

Thursday, again, is another day of mixed energies, some volatile and challenging, and others supportive. Mars opposes Neptune. We may feel scattered—or driven to create. Follow the flow of energy. Later in the day the Moon connects with the volatile Pluto-Eris square, opposing Pluto, and sparks may fly.

The Moon moves into playful Leo on Friday morning, inviting us into a weekend of recreation. However, the Moon opposes serious Saturn Friday evening, demanding that we act responsibly, and perhaps making us feel laden or lonely.

Strong mental energy is available through a Mercury-Saturn trine, which could be used for discerning conversations, writing, or planning. The day is infused with enthusiasm, and it may deliver some surprising twists and turns as the Moon squares Uranus.

Sunday is a volatile day, and the Moon is dark. Observe the Sabbath—and rest. Venus opposes Pluto and squares Eris; connections with loved ones could meet with difficulties. The Moon ingresses into Virgo at 4:06 p.m., providing reason and revealing solutions.

Monday is a promising, busy, fulfilling day. The day is wired for the unexpected, and sports a New Moon. The two benefics, Venus and Jupiter, foster blessings in relationships, as well as monetary increase. Mars and Pluto also trine in earth signs (Virgo and Capricorn respectively), giving grounding and tremendous energy to the day. The New Moon trines Uranus, which may sprout new developments. The Sun, Moon, Mars, and Uranus form a potent Grand Trine in Earth signs with Pluto. This dynamic energy that can make for a powerful day, a powerful week ahead, and can seed a powerful new lunar month. Employ the positive planetary energy and put it to work.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: My birthday! Disorganized, distracting day that may result in discoveries and connections.

Monday: Stronger day for planning and new levels of understanding.

Tuesday: Scattered day when things don’t come together. Stick with simple, routine tasks.

Wednesday: Mixed day of calm and comfortable energy, as well as turbulent and challenging.

Thursday: Another mixed day. Energies are scattered and volatile.

Friday: Playful day, but tend to responsibilities.

Saturday: Enthusiastic day which may bring surprises. Strong mental energy available.

Sunday: Volatile day. Dark Moon. Take the Sabbath to rest.

Monday: Powerful, promising day. New Moon. Grand Trine in Earth. Make the most of the day, the week, and the month ahead.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
