In the Stars August 13-20, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week
This is the last week with the Sun in Leo tropically, standing for courage, creativity, and generosity. The Sun in Leo calls us to play and fun gatherings. Sun and Moon form a New Moon on August 16, conjunct Venus, and square to Uranus. This lunation invites surprise, and twists and turns in matters of love. Set intentions for what you want to create. Now there are five planets retrograde: Venus, Chiron, Saturn, Pluto, and Neptune, and soon there will be seven, with Mercury and Uranus joining the party next week. All this retrograde energy invites an interior, reflective, intuitive focus, while at the same time we enjoy the lively, extroverted energy of the Leo Sun.
Mercury goes retrograde August 23, so wrap up travel plans, contracts, and agreements this week. The three-week retrograde period will be a time for review and revision, but not for moving things forward.
Pluto is squaring the nodal axis which has just shifted into Aries/Libra. The North Node aligns with Eris, adding bold, dynamic energy to this T-square. This Pluto-Eris-Nodal Axis alignment invites us to let go of clutter, patterns, or relationships that no longer serve us. We are called to a higher vibration that results from cleaning things up or giving things up. Venus is in Leo for a long period (June 5-Octoer 8, 2023), and retrograde until September 3. With the Sun and Venus in Leo there is a lot of enthusiasm. Consider how you can open your heart and be more generous. How can you be playful and creative? Where do you want to amplify your enthusiasm and courage? How can you bring more pride and color into your life?

Sunday, August 13, is day of both easy and challenging energies. A Sun-Venus conjunction in Leo encourages us to express our love and caring. Feelings and desires run strong. The Cancer Moon makes benefic sextiles to Uranus and Mars, inviting excitement and creative expression. A Moon-Neptune trine gives peace and gentleness, but an approaching Moon-Pluto opposition just after midnight PDT is emotionally demanding.
The week begins with a bounce on Monday, August 14th, with the Moon in Leo. Put some fun in your work day. Chiron aspects both Saturn and Venus, calling for attention and intention on relationships, with some restraint.
The Leo Sun squares Uranus in Taurus on Tuesday, August 15. Being that Taurus and Leo are fixed signs, they are resistant to change. However, the Sun-Uranus square is all about change. So, consciously make this a day of change. Do something different, or go about your day in a new way. Meander along a new pathway and see what you can discover. If this day presents you with something new, embrace it. A Moon-Venus conjunction in Leo gives affection, and amplifies warm feelings toward others. Extend yourself to someone and shower them with appreciation.
Wednesday, August 16 holds a potent New Moon. The Sun is strong in its dignity, as it rules the sign of Leo. This New Moon at 23:17 Leo is exactly square to Uranus at 23:00 degrees Taurus. This could herald powerful change. Given Venus’ close conjunction with the New Moon, there could be financial or relational changes or opportunities that emerge suddenly. The New Moon each month invites us to set intentions around the themes of the planetary energies. This month’s invitation is around children, creativity, love, and money. The energies call for boldness and confidence. At 4:14 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Virgo, signaling a time the next two days to create more order in our lives.
Thursday, August 17 begins with a Moon-Saturn opposition, setting the day for accomplishment and tending to responsibilities. The Virgo Moon demands clean-up and improvement. Give the day a lot of hard work, and you will be amazed at what you have done by the end of the day, buoyed by an optimistic Moon-Jupiter trine.
The Virgo Moon conjuncts Mercury on Friday, August 18, giving practical consideration for the day. A Moon-Uranus trine will beckon us to march to our own drumbeat, and take a different path than usual. A Moon-Neptune conjunction in the evening will encourage us to relax and watch a movie after a solid day’s work.
On Saturday, August 19th, the Moon ingresses into Libra, inviting a social weekend. The Leo Sun trines the North Node in Aries, helping us put plans in motion.
On Sunday, August 20th, the Libra Moon opposes both Ceres and Chiron, possibly creating some stormy weather with others near and dear. However, a Moon-Venus sextile is calming, and gives playfulness and levity to the day.
Monday, August 21 is turbulent, starting with a Moon-Eris opposition, followed by a Moon-Pluto square. The Moon ingresses into Scorpio at 4:22 p.m. PDT, drawing us inward Monday evening.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
