In the Stars August 15-22, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week
The week ahead is the last with the Sun in Leo tropically; summer vacations wind down. Uranus turns retrograde on Thursday for a five-week backward spin, joining all other major outer planets in retrograde motion: Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Neptune, and Pluto. All of these planets will be retrograde until Saturn breaks out into direct motion October 11th. Mercury will join the retrograde party September 27th to October 18th. This is a good time to draw inward and re-think things. The Delta wave of the Covid virus and increasing restrictions is an example of this retrograde energy. Uranus makes trine aspects to Mars and Mercury, all in earth signs, giving brilliance from the alchemy of intuition and knowledge.

Sunday starts with a sense of inspiration and compassion thanks to a Moon-Neptune trine; however, the navigation of feelings of overextension may feel challenging (Moon square Jupiter and Sun). Mercury squares the nodal axis, perhaps drawing out too much worry and overthinking. We welcome the Sagittarius Moon at 8:11 p.m. PDT which may lift our spirits at the end of the day and give an optimistic outlook for the week ahead.
Monday’s usually optimistic Sag Moon is square Mercury and Mars. We feel pulled in different directions. Communications may be compromised and strained. A Moon-Chiron trine later in the day may offer some respite and ease, and enable the Sag Moon to feel the joy of its good humor.
Tuesday holds a fiery Sun-Eris trine. The Capricorn Moon supports productivity. A Sun-Moon trine and a benefic Moon-Jupiter sextile bless the day. These mixed aspects combine to make a strong work day. Expect to get a lot accomplished.
Wednesday holds a strong Grand Trine in Earth signs: Moon in Capricorn, Uranus in Taurus, and Mercury and Mars conjunct in Virgo. This alignment is practical, sound, energetic, ambitious. Use it to find new methods and pathways toward a productive day.
Uranus stations on Thursday and goes retrograde for the next five months. When a planet stations, its energy and symbolism are extra strong. Thursday is a day that may include reversals, surprises, and strong intuition. In addition, Mercury and Uranus are trine, an aspect of brilliance, quick thinking, and openness to new ideas. The Moon is conjunct Pluto, fueling drive for accomplishment. Thursday is a powerful day with great potential. Make the most of it.
Friday the Moon moves into Aquarius, opening us to consider different methods, ideas, and options. A Grand Trine in air signs opens our thinking and enhances communication: Saturn in Aquarius, Venus in Libra, and Ceres in Gemini. A Moon-Saturn conjunction reminds us of boundaries and gives focus. The evening invites a celebratory time with a group of friends.
Try something new on Saturday—a new route, a new activity, or a new method. Mars trines Uranus and this is the aspect of the day. In earth signs, this dynamic aspect can be productive, especially if new ways of doing something are applied. This is a good day to take calculated risks.
Sunday morning the Full Moon perfects at 29:36 degrees Aquarius, the last degree known as the critical aneretic degree of a sign. This degree just before the movement into the next sign is sensitive. It may correspond with repressed energy of the sign. On the other hand, there may be greater strength or exaggeration of the symbolism of the sign. In this case it could have something to do with groups, organizations, and society at large. There may be news concerning immigration issues. You may realize that you have outgrown a group or organization in which you have been a part. Jupiter is conjunct the Moon, amplifying the energy. Uranus trines a Mars-Mercury conjunction, continuing yesterday’s message about a time to try something new. The patterns of the Full Moon and its implications are with us for the coming month until the next Full Moon.
Monday is a dreamy, inspiring day with a Pisces Moon as its backdrop. The aspect of the day is Venus trine Saturn, inviting us to address relationship or financial matters. The Moon aspects Mars, Mercury, and Neptune throughout the day. Act on your inspiration and express yourself creatively.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
