In the Stars August 22-29, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week: Full Moon

The Moon is Full on Sunday morning at the last degree of Aquarius. A little later the Sun moves into Virgo tropically, the mutable earth sign that marks the transition from summer to fall. Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are all retrograde for the next two months. Retrograde energy is strong, yet more inwardly focused. This is a good time to pull back and re-think things.

Sunday morning the Full Moon perfects at 29:36 degrees Aquarius, the last degree known as the critical aneretic degree of a sign. This degree just before the movement into the next sign is sensitive. It may symbolize something that is strong, but perhaps repressed, or in the other direction, exaggerated or out of control. This Full Moon in Aquarius could have something to do with groups, organizations, and society at large. Global concerns include the Delta variant of Covid, the aftermath of the earthquake in Haiti, the Afghanistan situation, and Hurricane Henry. You may realize that you have outgrown a friendship or community in which you have been a part. Jupiter is conjunct the Moon, amplifying the energy. Uranus trines a Mars-Mercury conjunction, continuing yesterday’s invitation to try something new. The pattern of the Full Moon and its implications are with us for the coming month until the next Full Moon.

Monday is a dreamy, inspiring day with a Pisces Moon as its backdrop. The aspect of the day is Venus trine Saturn, inviting us to address a relationship matter, or consider financial matters. The Moon aspects Mars, Mercury, and Neptune throughout the day. Act on your inspiration and express yourself creatively.

Tuesday is a bold, energetic day, fired up by an Aries Moon. A Mercury-Neptune opposition may result in misunderstandings, and it can also ignite and inspire thinking. Use it to create—poetry, a story, or simply communicate words of compassion to someone you care about.

Wednesday’s Aries Moon loves independence. The Moon opposes Venus in Libra, creating some tension between relationship and personal needs. Communications may be challenging. This is a good day to strike out on your own, and do something physically vigorous in the outdoors.

We continue on our independent paths on Thursday. The storm rolls in later in the day as the Moon conjuncts Eris and squares Pluto. Get ready to rumble—and be careful! Greater ease comes when the Moon moves into peace and comfort-loving Taurus at 9:27 p.m. PDT.

The Pluto-Eris square perfects on Friday. These are two powerful, potentially destructive planets. This can be tremendous energy for positive change, but it also could be explosive. We may see some world events that reflect this highly volatile aspect. The Moon squares Saturn, hooking into the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square, as it conjuncts Uranus early Saturday morning. This may be an volatile day. Be cautious and go easy.

Saturday is a day of strong planetary aspects, some flowing and some difficult and challenging. After the Moon-Uranus conjunctiom, which could be de-stabilizing and surprising, Venus moves into a hard aspect with Uranus. Strong benefic aspects occur between the Moon and Mars, Neptune, and Pluto, but it remains to be seen whether or not the fixed earth Taurus Moon that tends to be controlling, can be loose enough to allow change. Finally, the Virgo Sun squares the nodal axis, calling attention to potential for growth.

We could set up a plan for the day early in the morning, but after the Moon moves into Gemini at 9:42 a.m. we will be easily distracted. Allow your energy to flow with this somewhat disorganized day. It may turn out to be a day of amazing discoveries.

Against the backdrop of Monday’s Taurus Moon there is a practical orientation toward sensual pleasures. The main aspect of the day is a Sun-Ceres square, highlighting family and nurturing. A late night Moon-Venus trine enables new levels of understanding.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
