In the Stars August 6-13, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun is now in Leo tropically, symbolized the lion, the animal king of the jungle. Leo is the archetype of royalty. The Sun is the ruler of Leo, so it is exceptionally strong there. Leo symbolizes courage, creativity, generosity, and playfulness. The week begins with Sun square Jupiter on Sunday, challenging us to shine brilliantly and take initiative with confidence. The Sun in Leo invites creativity and play, parties and fun gatherings. Now there are five planets retrograde: Venus, Chiron, Saturn, Pluto, and Neptune. By the end of August there will be seven, with Mercury and Uranus joining the party. This is a time for more interior, reflective, intuitive focus, while at the same time we enjoy the lively, extroverted energy of the Leo Sun.

Mercury goes retrograde August 23, so wrap up travel plans, contracts, and agreements in the next two weeks. The three-week retrograde period will be a time for review and revision, but not for moving things forward.

Pluto is squaring the nodal axis which has just shifted into Aries/Libra. The North Node aligns with Eris, adding bold, dynamic energy into this T-square. This Pluto-Eris-Nodal Axis alignment invites us to let go of clutter, patterns, or relationships that no longer serve us. We are called to a higher vibration that results from cleaning things up or giving things up. Venus is in Leo for a long period (from June 5-Octoer 8, 2023). Venus is retrograde until September 3. This is somewhat unusual, as Venus turns retrograde only once in every 32 months. With the Sun and Venus in Leo there is a lot of enthusiasm. Consider how you can open your heart and be more generous. How can you be playful and creative? Where do you want to amplify your enthusiasm and courage? How can you bring more pride and color into your life?

Sunday’s featured aspect is Sun-square-Jupiter. These two regal planets in fixed signs challenge us to shine brightly and lead with confidence. A Moon-Pluto square in the evening may add tension and aggression which can also be employed to power through a challenging project. This is a day to be bold and push your own limits, but take care not to go overboard.

Monday, August 7th, is blessed by the exalted Taurus Moon that seeks comfort and pleasure. The Moon makes benefic aspects to Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter, making for a day of ease and practical accomplishment.

The Taurus Moon’s trine to Mars in Virgo on Tuesday, August 8th, gets us moving on practical matters. Later in the day the Moon conjuncts Uranus, leading us to more exciting diversions. The Moon’s square to Venus can leave us feeling emotionally unsatisfied, but we can act on those feelings and reach out to fulfill our needs. This day holds intriguing potential.

The trickster planet Mercury is trine to Jupiter on Wednesday, August 9th. On another mercurial theme, the Moon ingresses into Gemini. These alignments make us more talkative and give us confidence to share news and ask questions. A Moon-Saturn square gives consideration and discernment, and prompts us to take the time required to resolve issues.

Thursday, August 10th, is a day of mixed energies. The Gemini Moon squares Mercury and Mars, making conversations lively, and perhaps feisty and contentious. Think before you speak. On the other hand, the Moon makes benefic sextiles to Chiron and Venus, promoting affection and connection.

We are curious and scattered on Friday, August 11th. The Gemini Moon is void of course from 10:27 a.m.-3:51 p.m. PDT during which time it would be best to do routine, insignificant tasks and avoid meetings, shopping, or decision making. At 3:51 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into Cancer, inviting us into a cozy evening at home with family.

Saturday, August 12th, the Leo Sun is trine to Chiron in Aries, inspiring self-confidence. Pride is boosted by a Moon-Jupiter sextile. This is a feel-good day, framed for gardening, and tending to household chores.

Sunday, August 13, is another day of mixed easy and challenging energies. A Sun-Venus (Retrograde) conjunction in Leo encourages us to express love and caring. Feelings and desires run strong. The Cancer Moon makes benefic sextiles to Uranus and Mars, inviting excitement and creative expression. A Moon-Neptune trine gives peace and gentleness, but an approaching Moon-Pluto opposition just after midnight PDT is emotionally demanding.

The week begins with a bounce on Monday, August 14th, with the Moon in Leo. Put some fun in your workday. Chiron aspects both Saturn and Venus, calling for attention and intention on relationships, with some restraint.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Shine brightly and push your limits.

Monday: Golden day of good work and ease.

Tuesday: Get moving on practical matters, and make the day exciting.

Wednesday: Conversation flows. Confidence is boosted. Take the time necessary for problem-solving.

Friday: Curious, scattered day. Moon VoC 10:27 a.m.-3:51 p.m. PDT. Enjoy a comfortable evening at home with family.

Saturday: Feel-good day great for gardening and tending to home.

Sunday: Express love, caring, and creativity. While you can relax in peace on one hand, intense demands emerge as well.

Monday: Bright, playful workday. Love relationships garner attention with restraint.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
