In the Stars January 10-17, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon
This is another fiery, volatile week, especially Tuesday and Wednesday when the Sun conjuncts Pluto, and they both square off with dwarf planet Eris. Tuesday holds a potent New Moon. In addition to the New Moon’s square to Pluto there are two other squares which heighten tension: Saturn and Mars and Jupiter and Mercury. This is the last full week of the Sun in Capricorn, so lean into your work and get a lot accomplished.

The Moon is void of course most of Sunday from 10:29 a.m. until Monday morning at 5:29 a.m. Stick to routine tasks rather than things calling for decisions and connections. Sunday is a good day for a hike, as the Sag Moon loves to move the body parts it rules: the hips and thighs.
The first day of the work week is an industrious one. The Capricorn Moon conjuncts Venus, trines Mars and Uranus, and makes a sextiles Chiron—all benefic aspects, making for an active day with good enenrgy. A Mercury-Jupiter alignment broadens our thinking. Make the most of this powerful day with lots of grounded earth energy.
Tuesday is a potent, tense, volatile day with the New Moon conjunct Pluto and square to Eris. In addition, Saturn and Mars are in square aspect. Mercury and Uranus square off, pushing forth new thinking and problem solving. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the 2020 Saturn-Pluto alignment; we can reflect on how much deep and profound change there has been since then. Be thoughtful and careful, and keep things simple today, as this is a highly charged, potentially explosive day.
Wednesday and Thursday are also potent, turbulent days with several significant astrological signatures. Uranus, the planet of change and awakening stations exact on Wednesday, moving direct. A planet’s energy is amplified when it turns direction as it is nearly at a standstill. The Moon conjuncts Saturn and Jupiter and squares Mars. This planetary convergence is driven, serious, and challenging. The Sun and Pluto are conjunct, exact on Thursday, yet another powerful signature these two days. Vigorously attend to your responsibilities and meet your challenges, and go slowly, carefully, and mindfully. A Venus-Uranus trine propels us toward the future and can change our relationship patterns—or bring a new relationship.
Planetary activity is light on Friday. The Moon is void of course until 2:16 p.m. PST, so during this time attend to routine tasks and insignificant matters such as cleaning up loose ends from the week’s work. Then the Moon moves into Pisces, and we can relax, dream, and drift into an easy weekend. Kick back and watch a movie, or listen to some music, and forget about the tension and trouble in the world for a brief while.
Saturday can be uplifting and inspiring, so do something to make it so. Take a hike along the ocean or body of water. Play music or write poetry. Empathy is heightened, and so is care and concern for loved ones.
Jupiter and Uranus square off, pushing us toward creative endeavors and breakthroughs. We garner optimism on the collective issues of humanity. The Moon is void of course from 12:55 p.m. through 11:07 p.m. PDT. Work in your yard and garden. Dabble in artistic projects, and give yourself a break before the work week starts tomorrow at full throttle.
Bounce out of bed and get moving on this active Monday. Lean into your work during these last two days of the Sun in Capricorn. We are confident and energized, but with Mars nearly conjunct Uranus, take care, as this is a reckless, yet creative, energy.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
