The featured image at the left shows Venus seen almost directly between the Sun and the Earth. This happens once every 18 months. It is similar to a New Moon, but while the Moon is dark, Venus’ backlit atmosphere reflects the sunlight, creating a glowing crescent arc.

The Sun is now in Scorpio, inviting us to go inward, to feel deeply, and take some solitude for ourselves. This deep, darker time invites reflection and introspection, and coupled with Mercury retrograde, it is a time for research and reconsideration.

Mercury is retrograde, and will be spinning backwards in the zodiac until November 13 when it stations at 5 degrees Scorpio. Mercury’s shadow period began October 4 and will continue until November 30 when Mercury returns to 20 degrees Scorpio. At the beginning of the shadow period seeds were planted regarding current issues and opportunities. During the three-week retrograde period, you are invited to re-imagine, restart, re-connect, revise, re-do, and renovate. This can be a fruitful time, but it is best not to make new contracts and commitments during the retrograde period. It is a time for re-thinking and revising your life and current plans. It is a good time to clean up your desk and email, and take care of old business.

During Mercury retrograde there can be mix-ups with dates and communication. I’ve sure had that experience this week. I had to change the dates of symphony tickets this week due to a double booking. I missed an email, and went to a meeting at the wrong address. I mixed-up swim time this morning, and then shared a lane with another swimmer (a friend). I’ve also been re-thinking some aspects of my life in a good way. I am noticing the many ways that Mercury and Venus retrograde are active in my life. How about yours?

Venus remains in retrograde motion through November 13, inviting us to re-examine our values, desires, and relationships. There may be some deep soul-searching over the next month with both planets in deep relational territory (Venus in Scorpio and Libra, and Mercury in Scorpio).

There are a lot of inconjunct aspects this week. When planets are inconjunct they are trying to work together, but they have different agendas. The challenge can be good, as it stretches us to think differently and adjust. These inconjuncts, coupled with Mercury retrograde, plus five other planets retrograde, strongly invite us to figure out new solutions and ways to work together.

The Moon is in its last quarter phase this week, darkening until a New Moon forms on Sunday, November 8. This is a week to finish project started at the New Moon in Libra October 10.

There are two long void-of-course Moon period in the coming week, as follows, in Pacific Time:

·       November 3 at 10:57 pm through November 5 at 6:38 am (Moon into Libra)

Note: Thursday, November 4 the Moon is VoC all day

·       November 7: 5:19 am-2:39 pm (Moon into Scorpio)

When the Moon is void it is not making a major aspect with other planets, and thus, not much is happening. We have a hard time making up our minds about matters, and meetings and connections often do not come together. These times are best for tending to routine tasks and doing things like gardening, reading, or processing email.

This Week:

Saturday, October 31, the Moon is in Cancer. Saturday is Halloween. Share the holiday with family, and remember that Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning, so you will gain an hour of sleep. Remember to turn clocks back an hour when you go to bed, unless it is done electronically for you.

Sunday and Monday, November 1-2, the Moon is in Leo. Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday at 2:00 a.m. These are playful days with the Moon in Leo. These are days for honoring the dead, including our ancestors. You may want to create an altar with photos of deceased loved ones. Leo is exuberant and expressive, so encourage your inner child to be joyful, maybe even a bit mischievous. Open your heart more fully and lift your spirits! The Moon trines Saturn, and the Sun makes an inconjunct aspect (150 degrees) with Saturn. There will be a strong pull to take care of responsibilities and to honor limitations. Monday the Moon conjuncts Mars and Jupiter, giving confidence and self-assurance, and great energy for making things happen for the better.

Tuesday and Wednesday, November 3-4, the Moon is in Virgo. These are the clean-up days of the month when it is time to get your life in order. Tuesday the Moon makes inconjunct aspects to Neptune and Pluto, calling for adjustment. Allow your intuition to work with your work with your convictions. Wednesday holds lovely aspects (Venus sextile Jupiter, and Sun conjunct Mercury), though the Moon is void of course all day. This is a happy day, but one for working on routine, insignificant tasks. It would be a good day for organizing and checking small tasks off your list. Play uplifting classical music while you work.

Thursday through mid-Saturday afternoon, November 5-7, the Moon is in Libra. The Moon inconjuncts Chiron, inviting us to consider new ways of resolving health issues. The Libra Moon calls us to connect. Spend time with your beloved, or other dear ones over a beautiful dinner. These are good days to discuss and mediate relationship concerns.

Saturday mid-afternoon (2:39 p.m. PST), through Monday, November 7-9, the Moon is in Scorpio. The Moon is dark Saturday evening, so you may want to take some solitude. Sunday a New Moon forms at 11:02 p.m. PST, at 16:53 Scorpio. Sunday is an overall good day. Satisfy your deep desires.

Planetary Pointers for the week ahead:

·       Give space for reconsidering, re-checking, and revising plans and projects.

·       Give grace for mistakes and mix-ups in communication that often occur when Mercury is retrograde.

·       Consider your relationships and what you value and how you want to change them or be changed.

·       Clean up and get your life in order (Tuesday and Wednesday).

·       Wednesday, November 4, the Moon is void of course all day. Reschedule meetings, as not much is likely to develop or result from them. It is a good day for doing routine, insignificant tasks.

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
