In the Stars July 30-August 6, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun is now in Leo tropically, symbolized the lion, the animal king of the jungle. Leo is the archetype of royalty. The Sun is the ruler of Leo, so it is exceptionally strong there. Leo symbolizes courage, creativity, generosity, and playfulness. The Sun is in Leo during the last weeks of summer vacation. Leo loves children, so this time encourages play with children and grandchildren. The Sun in Leo zodiacal month is the time for summer parties and fun gatherings, as well as for doing creative projects. This week holds a brilliant Full SuperMoon that is close to the earth on Tuesday, August 1st. The Sun in independent Leo and the Moon in community-minded Aquarius are squared by Jupiter, amplifying these themes of self-focus and concern about the world-at-large. These three planets in T-square formation are in fixed signs, calling for time and patience to work things out. Saturn and Mercury are exactly opposite, calling for discussions around boundaries and limitations. Uranus and Venus square, bringing up issues of love and money, and perhaps some surprises.

Now there are five planets retrograde: Venus, Chiron, Saturn, Pluto, and Neptune. By the end of August there will be seven, with Mercury and Uranus joining the party. We are drawn into a more interior, reflective, intuitive focus with this number of planets in reverse motion, while at the same time we enjoy the lively, extroverted energy of the Leo Sun. Venus is in Leo for a long period (from June 5-Octoer 8, 2023). Venus is retrograde until September 3. This is somewhat unusual, as Venus turns retrograde only once in every 32 months. With the Sun and Venus in Leo there is a lot of enthusiasm. Consider how you can open your heart and be more generous. How can you be playful and creative? Where do you want to amplify your enthusiasm and courage? How can you bring more pride and color into your life.

The Capricorn Moon frames Sunday and Monday, July 30 and 31, for strong work. A grand earth trine between the Moon in Capricorn, Mars in Virgo and Jupiter in Taurus blesses Sunday with practical energy. Make the most of this alignment to get a lot accomplished and move your goals forward.

On Monday, July 31, the Moon aligns with Uranus, stirring the pot with discoveries and diversions. Other aspects may create some issues to be handled, but still, the first day of the work week is a productive day.

Tuesday, August 1, is the first of two Full Moons in August, and it is a SuperMoon which is close to the earth. The Sun in Leo and the Moon in Aquarius are squared by Jupiter, amplifying the pull of independence vs. community. Mars and Jupiter form an exact trine in earth signs, giving confidence, enthusiasm, and expansion. The exuberance in this Full Moon Day is tamped down by Saturn’s opposition to Mercury, but also it offers discernment which might be helpful in this otherwise “larger than life” day.

The Aquarius Moon squares Uranus, making for a carefree day that invites individual expression, and may deliver a few surprises. A Moon-Venus opposition may rein us in, reminding us of other’s needs and feelings. The Moon moves into sweet Pisces at 8:06 p.m. PDT, calling for quiet time and preparation for dreamland.

Thursday is framed with two testy aspects to the Moon, a conjunction with Saturn in the morning, and an opposition to Mars in the evening. You may feel constrained and meet with accountability due to the Moon-Saturn conjunction, and you could be prone to tension and arguments with the Moon-Mars opposition. Fortunately, a benefic Moon-Jupiter sextile in the early evening brings perspective and forgiveness.

An innovative Moon-Uranus sextile invites new experiences on Friday, August 4th. The Sun and Moon both make aspects with Neptune, bringing softness and inspiration. It’s a perfect evening for listening to music, dancing, or simply zoning out. At 8:18 p.m. PDT the Moon enters Aries, raising the volume on a playful evening.

Saturday, August 5th, calls for adventure and playfulness. This weekend summer day holds a Sun-Moon trine in fire signs Aries and Leo respectively. Let your sunny day shine!

Sunday’s featured aspect is Sun-square-Jupiter. These two regal planets in fixed signs challenge us to shine brightly and lead with confidence. A Moon-Pluto square in the evening may add tension and aggression which can also be employed to power through a challenging project.

Monday, August 7th, is blessed by the exalted Taurus Moon that seeks comfort and pleasure. The Moon makes benefic aspects to Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter, generating a day of ease and practical accomplishment.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Powerful work day blessed with practical energy.

Monday: Discoveries and diversions may color this productive work day.

Tuesday: Exuberant, confident, expansive day with a dash of discernment as well.

Wednesday: Carefree day to express individuality, but tend to others needs and feelings as well.

Thursday: We are held accountable, and there is emotional tension. At the same time we are uplifted by vision, wisdom, and forgiveness.

Friday: New experiences are on tap, as is listening to music and dancing in the evening.

Saturday: Sunny, adventurous, fun day.

Sunday: Power struggles may occur as dominance is a theme. Aggressive energy may be directed to work on a project.

Monday: Golden day of good work and ease.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
