In the Stars August 17-24, 2025 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

New Moon at 0 degrees Virgo Friday, August 22
New Moon at 0 degrees Virgo Friday, August 22

The Sun is in Leo tropically for a few more days, and then it moves into Virgo on Friday, August 22.  Mutable earth sign Virgo is the last sign of the season of Summer. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo forms the backdrop for the start of a new school year. Summer vacation ends, and we will return to work and study.

There is a New Moon at 0 degrees of Virgo at 11:06 pm PDT on August 22 or 2:06 am EDT. Virgo symbolizes order and cleanliness, including a clean diet, exercise, and an orientation toward a healthy physical body. Virgo loves organization, attention to detail, and getting things done. New Moons invite new intentions for the month ahead. Orient this new lunar month’s goals toward putting order in your life, addressing numerous practical tasks that need to be completed, and improving your health regimen. This is a powerful New Moon, as it aspects Uranus (square) and Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune (inconjunct, forming a yod). There may be new directions and outcomes, as Uranus squares this New Moon.

Eclipse season will be here soon. There is a total Lunar Eclipse September 7 at 15 degrees Pisces, and a Solar Eclipse September 21 at 29 Virgo. Plan to keep your life simple and easy those two weeks as the energies will be intense. My astrologer friend Donna Stellhorn is offering a Zoom class on these eclipses if you would like to attend: Here’s a link for more information.

There is Grand Air Trine between Pluto, Uranus, and Mars now, though Mars is moving faster and loosening the trine. While it is active for the next few days there could be breakthroughs with inventions and a lot of activity in financial markets. Brilliant new ideas flow. Pluto sextiles Saturn and Neptune; Saturn and Neptune sextile Uranus. Uranus sextiles Mercury loosely, though Mercury is pulling away. Mercury and Mars are going to be in a benefic sextile aspect for most of the week, generating many creative ideas.

The Week Ahead:

Sunday, August 17, the Moon is in variety-seeking Gemini. This is a good day to take a short trip, connect with your siblings, and enjoy social outings with easy conversation. Mercury sextiles Mars, making you feel confident and creative.

Monday (12:04 pm PT) through Wednesday (4:16 pm PT), August 18-20, the Moon is in home and family-oriented Cancer. These may be eventful days as the Moon connects with the numerous aspects of the outer planets. The Moon also conjuncts benefic planets Venus and Jupiter. You will feel happy, and drawn toward pleasure and what you love to do. Cook some delicious food and invite friends or family to share it with you.

Thursday and Friday, August 21-22, the Moon is in playful, creative, magnanimous Leo. On Thursday the Moon connects with the Mercury-Mars sextile, making for a conversant day full of enthusiastic ideas. The Moon is dark, calling for some solitary time to pause before the New Moon.

Saturday and Sunday, August 23-24, the Moon is in task-oriented Virgo. There is a New Moon at 0 degrees of Virgo at 11:06 pm PDT on August 22 or 2:06 am EDT on August 23. New Moons invite setting intentions for the month ahead, so focus your goals on what Virgo loves: order and cleanliness. Set a big chunk of time this weekend to get your life in better order and get the new lunar month off to a strong start. This would also be a good weekend for a dietary cleanse.  The New Moon squares Uranus, so expect some surprises, and it also forms the base of a kite pattern between Pluto and Saturn/Neptune, giving strength and determination to your actions.

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
