In the Stars August 24-31, 2025 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

Virgo: Harvest Time
Virgo: Harvest Time

The Sun now shines in Virgo tropically.  The mutable earth sign of Virgo is the last sign of the season of summer. Ruled by Mercury, Virgo forms the backdrop for the start of a new school year. Summer vacation ends, and we return to work and study. Virgo loves to improve itself, striving for order and efficiency.

There was a New Moon at 0 degrees of Virgo at 11:06 pm PDT last night on August 22 or 2:06 am EDT August 23. Virgo symbolizes order and cleanliness, including a pure diet, exercise, and an orientation toward excellent physical health. Virgo loves organization, attention to detail, and getting things done. New Moons invite new intentions for the month ahead. Orient this new lunar month’s goals toward putting order in your life, addressing numerous practical tasks that need to be completed, and improving your health regimen. This is a powerful New Moon, as it aspects Uranus (square) and Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune (inconjunct, forming a yod). Expect new directions and outcomes.

Mars moves closer in square aspect to Jupiter, within 2 degrees by the end of the week. This is an expansive aspect, spurring action in cardinal signs Cancer and Libra respectively.  This aspect calls for expanded goals, and energetic action to fulfill them.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Eclipse season is upon us with a total Lunar Eclipse September 7 at 15 degrees Pisces, and a Solar Eclipse September 21 at 29 degrees Virgo. Plan to keep your life simple and easy those two weeks as the energies will be intense. My astrologer friend Donna Stellhorn has a recording about the approaching Eclipse season and how it may affect you. It’s available now

Pluto sextiles Saturn and Neptune; Saturn and Neptune sextile Uranus. The Sun is exactly square to Uranus on Sunday, August 24, and the Moon opposes Saturn and Neptune on Monday, August 25. Both luminaries light up the thread of outer planets in benefic aspects to each other. There will be a lot of activity these days.

The Week Ahead:

Saturday and Sunday, August 23-24, the Moon is in task-oriented Virgo. There was a New Moon at 0 degrees of Virgo at 11:06 pm PDT on August 22 or 2:06 am EDT August 23. New Moons invite setting intentions for the month ahead, so focus your goals on what Virgo loves: organization and cleanliness. Set a big chunk of time this weekend to get your life in better order and get the new lunar month off to a strong start. This would also be a good weekend for a dietary cleanse.  The New Moon squares Uranus and forms the base of a kite pattern between Pluto and Saturn/Neptune, giving strength and determination to your actions. Expect some surprises!

Monday through Wednesday, August 25-27, the Moon is in relationship-oriented Libra. On Monday the Moon conjuncts Mars and opposes Saturn and Neptune. Venus trines Saturn and Neptune. The Moon squares Jupiter on Tuesday which may correlate with feeling overextended. We will feel pressed to get a lot accomplished, but may meet with delays and overload.

Wednesday evening (6:26 p.m.) through Friday, August 27-29, the Moon is in Scorpio. Wednesday evening the Scorpio Moon squares Pluto and Venus, galvanizing strong feelings in relationships for better or worse. This aspect makes it easy to fall in love, or deeper in love. Friday, the 29th, my birthday, holds a Moon-in-Scorpio- square-Mercury aspect that may trigger irritations. Turn that energy into something positive by striving for deeper inquiry and conversation. Exercise patience and compassion. I’ll be celebrating my birthday at the San Francisco Giants game Friday evening.

Saturday through Monday, August 30-September 1, the Moon is in sunny Sagittarius. On Saturday the Moon forms a fire grand trine with Venus, Saturn, and Neptune. Sagittarius loves the outdoors and using the legs and thighs. Great energy for hiking or biking! Plan an outdoor adventure. Allow your imagination to soar!

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
