In the Stars July 18-25...shining light on the astrology of the week: Full Moon

The Sun moves into Leo this week on Thursday. Time to kick back on a fun vacation, though the week ahead can be a productive one workwise if you are not on vacation. Venus and Mars are

also in Leo, generating enthusiasm, warmth, courage, and creativity. Leo symbolizes children, so make time to play with children or grandchildren.

The Scorpio Moon meets up with the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square on Sunday, first squaring Saturn and later opposing Uranus. Mercury trines the Moon, making us prone to share, perhaps too much. Venus and Mars form a Yod with Neptune and Pluto. Irritations may be triggered. Adjustment is needed. There may be a reckoning or a breakthrough.

The Moon is void of course most of Monday (9:30 a.m. – 2:07 p.m. PDT). It may be hard to get in the groove of the work week until the Moon pops into Sagittarius at 2:07 p.m. PDT. A Mercury-Chiron square may make us emotionally sensitive. Thankfully, with the Sun and Moon trine in water signs Cancer and Scorpio we can work things out and get to a place of greater emotional ease and satisfaction, and then move on more joyfully and optimistically with our day.

Our minds are sharp and full of ideas on Tuesday as Mercury is in a benefic sextile to Uranus. The Sagittarius Moon gives optimism and vision. While there are some minor testy aspects, the Sag Moon is capable of handling challenges postively, and the Mercury-Uranus alignment helps us see things in new ways.

Wednesday is a strident day when we assert ourselves boldly. Militant Eris is stationary, turning retrograde. When a planet changes direction its energy is potentiated. Thus, assertive goddess Eris is strong in its station and is in trine connection with the fiery war god Mars as well. The trine aspect will soften this alignment and allow it to function at its best. Venus moves into Virgo, giving a practical approach to love and money concerns for the next month.

The Sun enters courageous Leo on Thursday, ushering in a month of playfulness and generosity, perfect energy for summer vacations. The serious Capricorn Moon curbs the enthusiasm. A Moon-Chiron square may draw some attention to matters that need to be healed. A Moon-Uranus trine may bring some sweet surprises. The day will be anything but routine.

It’s not a Friday light with the Moon conjunct Pluto. Rather, it is a powerful, industrious day to get a lot accomplished. At the end of the work day the Moon moves into Aquarius, signaling time to socialize in the light of the Full Moon. Meet a group of friends for happy hour and/or dinner and engaging conversation. We are challenged to balance personal gratification with awareness of the collective.

Inspiration abounds Saturday as Mercury conjuncts Neptune. This is an excellent aspect for writing, composing, or creating. The Moon conjuncts Saturn, harnessing discipline. Later in the day the Moon squares Uranus, and then something unexpected may emerge.

Sunday holds some less-than-holy aspects that may make us prone to anger and arguments (Mercury square Eris; Mercury opposite Pluto; Moon opposite Mars). You can use the edgy energy well by researching something thoroughly or working on solving a big problem. The day ends on a softer note with the Moon moving into Pisces at 8:29 p.m. and joining Jupiter, giving sweet dreams.

A Moon-Venus opposition on Monday may make us feel distant to those we love. Yet, compassion infuses us with understanding and acceptance of others. With the Moon in Pisces, we want to imagine and create.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Feelings run deep, and irritations may be felt. Limitations may result in breakthroughs.

Monday: Moon VoC 9:30 a.m. – 2:07 p.m. PDT. The day starts slow and picks up in the afternoon when the Sag Moon brings optimism and exuberance.

Tuesday: Optimism and vision combine with new ideas and ways of perceiving.

Wednesday: Use the fierce energy of this day for a worthy project.

Thursday: Sun enters Leo, bringing fun to summer. The productive day may hold some surprises.

Friday: Industrious work day. Kick back with friends Friday evening.

Saturday: Inspiring, energetic day for writing or creating. Expect surprises.

Sunday: Testy day prone to arguments. Put it to use solving problems.

Monday: Dream and create.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
