In the Stars June 23-30, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week
The Sun shines in Cancer, symbolizing home, family, tradition, compassion and caring. The United States was founded with a Cancer Sun. History and patriotism are strong American values. We celebrate Independence Day during this time with the Sun in Cancer. This is a month for family picnics, visits, and gatherings. It is a time for tending the hearth through gardening, cooking, and caring for your home and property. You may want to revisit photo albums and plan family visits. Reach out with compassion for all. This week’s big planetary news is that Saturn turns retrograde on Saturday, June 29. When planets turn direction they slow down, and their symbolic energy is strong. The symbolism of Saturn is duty, work, responsibility, contraction, limitation, and mastery. Saturn turns direction at 19:25 degrees of Pisces, and will travel in backward motion for five months until November 15.
_________
Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23, are industrious days to get a lot accomplished, as the Moon is in hard-working Capricorn. Saturday’s Moon-trine-Mars gives drive and determination. Mercury opposes the Moon and squares the nodal axis, stirring up challenging communication issues.
Sunday is full of planetary aspects, and energy, both flowing and challenging. Supportive aspects include the Moon’s sextiles to Saturn and Neptune, and the Moon’s trine to Uranus. Plan to do something new and expressive. Challenging aspects include the Moon’s square to Chiron and Eris that may make us more sensitive, and prone to anger. A Moon-Pluto conjunction late Sunday evening adds emotional intensity. We close out the weekend with resolve to start the week ahead with greater concern for humanity.
Monday, June 24, is framed by the friendly, carefree energy of the Aquarius Moon. Jupiter’s trine to the Moon adds buoyancy and a drive to explore and expand. Spend time with a friend, or call one you haven’t spoken with in a while.
A Mercury-Ceres opposition on Tuesday, June 25, encourages compassionate communication with family or caregivers. The Aquarius Moon squares Uranus, pushing for independence and free expression. Be prepared for plans to go off track.
The Pisces Moon trines the Cancer Sun on Wednesday, June 26, highlighting empathy and intuition. Venus in Cancer squares the nodal axis, so we have to be careful not to take on other’s troubles and discontent.. A Mercury-Saturn trine in water signs Cancer and Pisces, respectively, helps us communicate sensitively and clearly. The Moon trines Venus and sextiles Mars by evening, helping us find a good balance in relationships.
The Moon’s conjunction with Saturn on Thursday, June 27, urges attention to work and duty. Later in the day the Moon’s benefic aspects to Mercury and Uranus encourage caring, intuitive communication. The Pisces Moon fosters imagination, so let it soar. It should be a good night for dreaming with Neptune conjunct the Moon.
Friday, June 28, sports a high-energy Moon in Aries, and the Moon’s sextile to Pluto adds to the powerful potential of the day. Mercury’s hard aspects to Jupiter and Chiron may bring some challenges and a sense of overextension. Friday is Venus’ day, and a lovely Venus-Mars sextile in the evening enables us to relax and enjoy life’s pleasures.
Saturday’s big planetary news is that Saturn (Saturday’s planet) is stationary retrograde, making the symbolism of Saturn extra strong (duty, work, contraction, limitation). Saturn turns direction at 19:25 degrees of Pisces, and will travel in backward motion until November 15. Saturn’s taciturn, work-oriented influence turns us toward responsibilities It is a testy, argumentative day with the Mars-ruled Moon conjunct anger-prone Eris and square to Mercury. Discharge irritations by getting work done.
The Moon is in Taurus on Sunday and Monday, providing a stable, practical foundation. The Moon squares Pluto early Sunday, June 30, giving both push and resistance. Taurus loves to indulge in life’s simple pleasures. Sunday is a good day for cooking, gardening, and tending to home. In the light of a Sun-Moon sextile, enjoy an evening with good food, drink, and company.
The determined Taurus Moon and Mars conjunct on Monday, the first day of July, boosting productivity, which may be needed to support a leisurely holiday a few days later on July 4th. The Moon’s benefic sextiles to Venus and Saturn provide good support. However, the Sun’s semi-square to Uranus in the evening may be unsettling and signal change.
The Week in Short:
Saturday: Drive and determination fuel an industrious day.
Sunday: Strong work day that calls for some experimentation.
Monday: Friendly, carefree day. Spend time with a friend.
Tuesday: Communicate with family members who may need support. Independence is a strong theme for the day.
Wednesday: Compassion and empathy are summoned. Good day for finding balance in relationships with others.
Thursday: Get down to business and let your imagination soar.
Friday: High-energy day for getting a lot accomplished. Relax in the evening and enjoy some pleasure.
Saturday: Saturn turns retrograde. Testy, taciturn, work-oriented day.
Sunday: Stable, practical day to care for matters at home. Enjoy an evening with good food, drink, and company, and perhaps some music.
Monday: Productive, stable day with strong support, though the evening may be unsettling.

Moon Void of Course:
This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.Void-of-Course Moon times for the month ahead (one lunar cycle):Pacific Standard Time:
