In the Stars November 16-23, 2025 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

New Moon at 28 degrees Scorpio Wednesday, November 19
New Moon at 28 degrees Scorpio Wednesday, November 19

The Sun is in Scorpio for a few more days until November 21. Guard these days for some quiet time before the Sun moves into Sagittarius on Friday, when it will be time to party. Dive deep into a research project or a problem to solve. The Scorpio Sun loves detective work. Purge some excess stuff. The Scorpio Sun also loves to shed what is no longer useful, just as a snake sheds its skin.

The week ahead is a fortunate one, as the Scorpio Sun forms a Grand Trine with Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn and Neptune in Pisces. Mercury also joins the Grand Trine as it backs into Scorpio on Tuesday as it moves retrograde, and conjuncts the Sun. This Grand Trine is good for business ventures, both expansion and consolidation. Note, though, to realize the benefits of the configuration, you have to take action.

A New Moon forms at 28 degrees of Scorpio on Wednesday, November 19. This New Moon exactly conjuncts Mercury retrograde and opposes Uranus and The Pleiades, making for some chaos as a result of its opposition to Uranus. The New Moon/Mercury are the handle of a kite pattern that includes trines to Jupiter in Cancer and to Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, and opposes Uranus in Taurus. The New Moon/Uranus opposition forms a T-square to Pluto. This is an extremely active New Moon that may have surprising outcomes.

Mercury is retrograde for two more weeks. There are often electronic and mechanical breakdowns during the retrograde period, and there may be more than usual, especially in the early period of this one. As an example, I’ve had several computer problems this past week.  Communication mix-ups, mistakes, and delays are also common, so be patient and forgiving. The three-week Mercury retrograde period November 9-29 is a time for reviewing, rethinking, revising, and re-doing. It is a good time to clean up your email in box. Mercury moves back into Scorpio November 19, and then goes direct on November 29 at 20 degrees of Scorpio.

Through November 27, when Saturn turns direct, five planets are retrograde: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. With so many planets retrograde we feel personally and collectively restrained.

The Week Ahead:

Saturday through mid-day Monday, November 15-17, the Moon is in Libra. The focus turns toward relationships, social connections, beauty and pleasure. Venus is Libra’s ruling planet. The Scorpio Sun trines Jupiter in Cancer, exact on Sunday. These are days of opportunity.

Monday afternoon through Wednesday, November 17-19, the Moon is in Scorpio. Emotions run deep, especially with both the Sun and Moon in Scorpio.

Wednesday, November 19, at 10: 47 p.m. PT, a New Moon forms at 28 degrees of Scorpio.  The New Moon exactly conjuncts Mercury retrograde and opposes Uranus and The Pleiades. The New Moon/Mercury are the handle of a kite pattern, formed by trines to Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn and Neptune in Pisces, and Uranus opposing in Taurus. A kite is an object that soars when it is free to blow in the wind while anchored by a string. As a metaphor, what projects can you tether and then allow to soar as you set them free. For example, I’ve launched a bathroom renovation, tethered by plans, a contract, and funding; and now the contractors are set free to do the work. The New Moon/Uranus opposition forms a T-square to Pluto. These aspects will surely make Wednesday and Thursday sizzle with surprises and lots of energy and possibilities.

Thursday through Saturday afternoon, November 20-22, the Moon is in Sagittarius. With the background of the New Moon’s energies described above, the Sag Moon seeks adventure. The Sun moves into Sagittarius on Friday, November 21. Get ready for a dazzling holiday season. These would be good days to envision travel or educational plans, as well as how you want to expand your life.

Saturday afternoon (2:52 pm PT) through Monday, November 22-24, the Moon is in Capricorn. The Moon trines Uranus on Saturday, generating serendipity, disruptions, or surprises. The Capricorn Moon demands hard work and addressing responsibilities. Orient yourself toward your goals and make the most of this productive energy.

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
