In the Stars October 1-8, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

Potent, volatile alignments fire up the next week. Mars conjuncts the South Node, while Eris conjuncts the North Node. The nodal conjunctions exaggerate the qualities of these two aggressive planets, Mars and Eris. Pluto, an intense, explosive planet as well, is square to these planets and the nodal axis, making for a lot of tension. With Pluto being slow and ready to turn direction it is especially potent. There is much strife in the world now, and Mars is a trigger that acts, impulsively as well as courageously. The alignments in the coming week, and month ahead are likely to rock the world.

Following these intense alignments in the coming week are the two eclipses October 14 and 28.

How can you use this powerful, explosive energy personally for good? Tackle a big project that requires a lot of fuel and fire. Be courageous. Take action, but since there may be a tendency to be impulsive, slow down and think about things before you leap forward.

Mercury has completed its shadow period as of September 29th. Six planets are retrograde: Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. On October 11 Pluto turns direct. In the coming week Pluto slows its motion and becomes more potent.

Sunday’s Taurus Moon invites indulgence in sensual pleasures. Enjoy a hike and bask in nature. An exuberant Moon-Jupiter conjunction heightens our sense of satisfaction.

On Monday, October 2, Mercury opposes Neptune, sparking imaginative, idealistic thinking, though it can also lead to disillusion. The Taurus Moon conjuncts Uranus, which may take us off course to amazing new discoveries.

A Gemini Moon makes Tuesday, October 3, a day for communication, connection, and community. The Moon’s trine to the Libra Sun makes for easy expressions of these qualities. Reach out to your siblings, and consciously build your connections and community through communication.

Mars is exactly conjunct the South Node on Wednesday, October 4. Mercury moves into Libra, a placement that helps us be more judicious during its stay in this cardinal air sign until October 22. A Moon-Neptune squares casts a mysterious, confusing spell over the latter part of the day.

The Moon moves into Cancer on Thursday, October 5, highlighting home and family. A Moon-Saturn trine gently draws us toward our responsibilities, and calls in stronger emotional bonds. Tension mounts the next few days as Mars moves toward its exact square to Pluto on Sunday, October 8.

Friday’s (October 6) Cancer Moon may show its moodiness as a result of squares to the Sun and Chiron. However, a Moon-Jupiter sextile can lift the clouds and give some sunshine and optimism. The Cancer Moon draws us home. This would be a good evening to cook a satisfying meal and cozy up with family for the evening.

Saturday. October 7, is laden with testy aspects. Channel the challenging energies into household chores and projects and aim to go with the flow. At 4:25 p.m. PDT, the Moon moves into Leo, signaling that it is time to play. Plan on a fun, social evening that will life your mood.

Drama may unfold Sunday, October 1, as Mars and Pluto make an exact square. This energy has been at play for several days, and may come to a crescendo. It may be especially strong given that Pluto is slowing down to change direction on Tuesday. Desire, power, and control issues are triggered, exaggerated by a Moon-Jupiter square. Venus moves out of its long 4-month stay in Leo and ingresses into Virgo.

The Leo Moon squares Uranus on Monday, October 9, which may be reflected in sudden breakthroughs or changes. The occurs in addition to the still powerful, explosive energy of the Mars-Pluto square. Venus opposes Saturn, confronting us with financial or relational issues.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
