In the Stars October 23-30, 2022 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: Solar Eclipse

The Sun moves into the deep emotional waters of Scorpio on Sunday, October 23rd. The month ahead invites us to draw within and take some solitude in the deep autumn prior to the Sun’s placement next month in exuberant, social Sagittarius.

Eclipse season is here with a Partial Solar Eclipse occurring Tuesday, October 25th at 2 degrees of Scorpio, and a Total Lunar Eclipse on election day November 8th at 16 degrees of Taurus.

Saturn and Uranus continue in square aspect, creating tension and urging restructuring and change. This square will figure prominently in the eclipse of November 8th as the Sun and Moon will conjunct Uranus, and thus square Saturn. Election Day in the United States may bring many surprises.

Mars in Gemini will turn retrograde on October 30th for several months until January 12th, encouraging us to re-work old projects. Continue to read, converse, write, listen, and learn.

On Sunday both Venus and the Sun move into Scorpio tropically, leaving the pleasantries and social engagement of the Libra Sun for the deep emotional waters of Scorpio. This begins a month that is framed for retrospection and more inward time. If you honor this time for replenishing, you will be better prepared for the exuberant social month of Sagittarius that follows beginning November 22nd. Both Venus and the Sun quincunx Jupiter, requiring some adjustments to be made in expectations. The Moon opposes Chiron, inviting us to ponder our wounds. The Moon is dark, two days before the New Moon, emphasizing the need to withdraw and do self-care as you will likely be feeling emotionally sensitive.

Monday begins with a Moon-Saturn trine, framing the day for responsibility and diligence in work. Toward evening the Moon squares Pluto, unleashing volatility and strong feelings. The Moon is at its darkest and is just before Tuesday’s New Moon partial Solar Eclipse. Go easy and do not try to take on too much.

The Moon moves into Scorpio on Tuesday, forming a Solar Eclipse with the Sun at 3:48 a.m. PDT at 2 degrees of Scorpio. Anyone with personal planets in the first few degrees of Scorpio may be influenced by the eclipse. Venus is conjunct the eclipse; Scorpio-related emotions of passion, determination, jealousy and rage may run strong. Meeting our own emotional needs and honoring our values are themes. Eclipse energy is strong, so keep things simple.

Wednesday is active day for planetary alignments. The Moon galvanizes the Uranus-Saturn square, heralding the week’s reminder to restructure and open to change. A Moon-Neptune trine offers inspiration and lightness. A Mercury-Mars trine and a Mercury-Eris opposition encourage conversation and debate.

After the heaviness of the Moon’s transit through Scorpio, we are relieved to be in the light of the buoyant Sagittarius Moon as of early Thursday morning. The Moon’s trine to Jupiter in Aries adds to the exuberance. Jupiter retrogrades back into Pisces where it will be until December 20th before it moves back into Aries, giving more compassion and sensitivity during its last dip into this mutable water sign.

The Sagittarius Moon calls us to a sense of expansion and adventure on Friday. The day begins with a sense of grounding, supported by the Moon’s sextile to Saturn. Later in the day a Moon-Neptune square softens our focus and lifts our feet off the ground. The Sag Moon loves to party, so make it a social evening of fun.

The weekend is framed for work and productivity in the light of a Capricorn Moon. Saturday Mercury ingresses into Scorpio, sharpening our focus on deep matters. The Moon’s benefic sextiles to the Sun and Venus later in the day brings satisfaction.

Mars turns retrograde on Sunday at 25:36 degrees of Gemini tropically, signaling a time for the 2 ½ months ahead to re-work old projects. The Capricorn Moon makes benefic aspects to Uranus and Neptune. These alignments give inspiration and innovation for the day’s work. The night could be stormy, as the Moon conjoins Pluto and squares Eris. Apply the thunderous energy to a project so at the end of the weekend, you can feel good about what you have accomplished.

Halloween Monday is colored by an Aquarius Moon. Don a quirky, unusual costume, and enjoy the day with a friendly gathering.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
