In the Stars August 8-15, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon

The Sun continues to shine in Leo, its ruling sign where it is strong. Leo symbolizes courage, confidence, generosity, entertainment, children, and play. Sunday sports an intense New Moon that connects with the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square. The New Moon squares Uranus and is opposite Saturn. While there could be earth-shaking events that occur, this alignment is also an invitation to make a new move toward big change in your personal life.

A dramatic Leo New Moon perfects on Sunday, squaring Uranus and opposing Saturn, with Mercury-opposite-Jupiter looped in. I have been writing about the pulsing of the Moon each week as it connects with the Saturn-Uranus square, pushing us toward changing something big in our lives. On Sunday both the Sun and the Moon are in close aspect to this square which may result in some big life-changing events around the planet or something significant in your own life. This is a good day for a creative writing project, or just about anything out of the ordinary that could benefit from fresh ideas.

The early part of this week is staged for clean-up with the Moon in Virgo through mid-day Wednesday, August 11th. The work-focused, efficient Virgo Moon is usually on task, but Monday’s Venus-Neptune opposition softens and widens the lens, and we may be distracted. The Venus-Neptune aspect is artistic and visionary. The diverse energies combine to make our work inspired as well as productive. We could paint a room more wondrous and colorful, write a story, or re-vision a task. A Moon-Mars conjunction at the end of the day re-directs our focus toward what is most essential.

Uranus makes a nice benefic trine with the Virgo Moon on Tuesday. If you’re open to trying new methods or taking new pathways to get things done, you will be surprisingly effective and productive. Since the Sun is in Leo, make your work fun. Turn on the music, and get to work.

The Moon is void of course Wednesday morning, so stick to routine, insignificant tasks and completing your monthly clean-up. At 1:07 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into cardinal sign Libra, and energy will be more intentional. Venus makes a benefic trine to Pluto, empowering relationships, bringing issues to the foreground. Mercury ingresses into Virgo where it will be its ruling sign and sign of exaltation through the end of August. Mercury in Virgo symbolizes sharp, exacting thinking.

Thursday is steadied by a Moon-Saturn trine, which may help to handle tender feelings that may result from a Moon-Chiron opposition and a critical Mars-Juno square. The Libra Moon is always accommodating, though repressed feelings may seep out through passive-aggressive reactions. Working things out and finding harmony in relationships is a goal.

Friday is an edgy day with Saturn (inconjunct) and Pluto (square) aspects to the Moon. Frustrated feelings may be brought to the surface, and truth examined after the Moon moves into Scorpio at 5:01 p.m. PDT. The Moon is void of course from 1:38 p.m. to 5:01 p.m. Work may not be completed as you had hoped by the end of the day, which is also the end of the work week, unless you have planned ahead to get the work done before the void Moon arrives and you take the rest of the afternoon off. You’ll need the pause to rest up for the intense ups and downs of the weekend ahead.

Emotions run deep with the Moon in Scorpio on Saturday. Often the depth of feelings that the Scorpio Moon can dredge up can feel like a stormy sea ride; today in particular the ride may be full of ups and downs. This is the day of the week when the Moon connects with the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square. This day the Moon squares Saturn and opposes Uranus. Although it can be a rocky ride, the energy encourages progress toward change.

While Sunday starts with a sense of inspiration and compassion thanks to a Moon-Neptune trine, the navigating of rough seas continue (Moon square Jupiter and Sun). Mercury squares the nodal axis, perhaps drawing us toward too much worry and overthinking. We welcome the Sagittarius Moon at 8:11 p.m. PDT which may lift our spirits at the end of the day and give an optimistic outlook for the week ahead.

Monday’s usually optimistic Sag Moon is square Mercury and Mars. We feel pulled in different directions. Communications may be compromised and strained. A Moon-Chiron trine may offer some respite and ease, and enable the Sag Moon to feel the joy of its good humor.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
