In the Stars December 11-18, 2022 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun still shines in expansive Sagittarius, the exuberant fire sign that symbolizes possibilities. Venus has just moved into Capricorn tropically, where it will be through January 2, 2023. Attend to year-end financial matters and get them in ship-shape. A key aspect this week is Mercury's trine to Uranus, exact on Saturday. This aspect encourages invention and innovative thinking.

Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto are now direct in motion. With these planets direct, more visionary, expansive, creative energy will be available and more projects can now move forward. Chiron will follow turning direct December 22, Mars on January 12, and Uranus on January 22.

Mars, Venus, Mercury, and the Moon are now Out of Bounds (OOB). Mars will be OOB for nearly six months until May 4th. Planets are OOB when their declination is more than 23 degrees, 27 minutes. When planets are out of bounds their energy is wild, unique, and extraordinary. The planet expresses itself unbounded, or without limits. Mars retrograde and OOB in Gemini these next few months will be fascinating to watch. People may be much more courageous and outspoken than usual. Because Mars is explosive and impulsive, volatile energy may be unleashed.

Sunday morning opens to the explosive thunder of a Moon-Pluto opposition. This bold opening to the day is demanding. The intensity eases when the Moon trines Jupiter later in the morning. The Moon enters playful Leo at 12:08 p.m. PST and ushers in an afternoon and evening of holiday fun.

Monday is a high-spirited day with the Moon in Leo and the Sun in Sagittarius. Saturn makes a benefic sextile to the Sun, giving discipline and restraint to the expansive Sun. Mars energizes the Moon and gives rise to lively conversation. A Moon-Uranus square in the evening may bring some unexpected changes.

Tuesday unfolds with the demands and limitations of a Moon-Saturn opposition, calling us toward our responsibilities. Once we are anchored, we can relax into the uplifting fire, creativity, and playfulness of the day, buoyed by the Moon’s trine to the Sun.

Wednesday and Thursday are framed for getting things in order and taking care of outstanding tasks, supported by the Virgo Moon. These are good days to get packages wrapped and mailed, shop for gifts still on your list, address cards, and get prepared for holiday gatherings. The Sun squares Neptune on Wednesday, blurring boundaries. The Moon trines Venus, easing tension and encouraging pleasure.

Thursday sports a Moon-Uranus trine that may give insight and new perspectives. A Sun-Eris trine encourages us to continue forward with our agenda, and a Mercury-North Node trine supports work on long-term goals. A Moon-Neptune opposition softens the edges of the day with compassion and long-term vision.

A Moon-Pluto trine Friday morning sets the tone for an industrious day. The Moon’s ingress into Libra in the afternoon brings our focus to social and relational concerns. We may feel drawn into a big project, or thinking bigger as a result of a Moon-Jupiter opposition.

Saturday’s major aspect is a Mercury-Uranus trine. This encourages us to think innovatively. The Libra Moon causes us to doubt how we feel. The key is in meeting our personal needs while at the same time pleasing others.

Although Sunday is anchored by a Moon-Saturn trine, the day holds some contentious minor aspects involving the Moon and volatile planets Pluto, Mars, and Eris. Hold to the optimism of the Sagittarius Sun, but be careful not to lash out at others due to your own irritations or hurt feelings. The Moon enters Scorpio tropically at 7:31 p.m. PST, drawing us into the deep emotional waters of Scorpio where we are more sensitive, and want to carve out some solitary time. You will want to draw your energy inward the next two days before the Sun leaves Sagittarius and the shortest day of the year comes at the Winter Solstice occurring on Wednesday.

Monday is the first day of Chanukah. Assess if there is any clean-up to do on Monday morning regarding the emotional storms of yesterday. A Venus-North Node trine draws us toward love and beauty. The Moon-Uranus opposition may rock the boat with disruptions, or offer new perspectives and bring surprises. Express yourself in a new way.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
