In the Stars December 14-21, 2025 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

ree

The Sun is in Sagittarius tropically for one more week until Sunday, December 21, when it moves into Capricorn, ushering in the official season of winter. Sagittarius symbolizes joy, optimism, and expansion; it is a great energy for social engagements. Enjoy jovial holiday celebrations in the week ahead. There is a New Moon on Friday, December 19, at 28 degrees of Sagittarius tropically, the Galactic Center. The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is “An Indian Woman Please to the Chief for the Lives of Her Children.” As you consider your year-end giving, this symbol invites us to donate to causes that benefit children such as Unicef, Save the Children, The Tanzanian Children’s Fund, and St. Jude’s Hospital. On this New Moon, consider signing up to be a mentor for a child, a CASA volunteer, or to help in a classroom.

Mercury, Saturn and Neptune are now direct, leaving only Jupiter and Uranus in retrograde motion. Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars are all in optimistic, worldly Sagittarius. With all these planets in mutable fire sign Sagittarius, you may be prone to overspending, so be advised and mindful.

Mars moves into Capricorn on Sunday, December 14 and will stay in this cardinal earth sign until January 23. Mars is exalted in Capricorn; it will support career moves and executive functioning during this time, especially when the Sun moves into Capricorn on December 21.

Mars is Out-of-Bounds (OOB) now until January 4, and it will soon be joined by in the OOB space by the Moon, Venus, and ! Lynn Holt, and astrologer in Rimini, Italy wrote, "During their OOB phase planets express their full potential and act as wild cards, completely unpredictable…be it in a positive or negative manner. Mars will be OOB together with the Moon from 18-21 December, on 22 December they will be joined by Venus. From 23-28 December, Venus and Mars will continue their OOB journey and from 29-31 December they will be joined by Mercury. From 1-3 January we will have Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars OOB. . . So, over the Festive period and into the New Year we will have four personal planets OOB.

Mars is an assertive planet, Capricorn is a restrictive sign ruled by Saturn, it imbues responsibility, structure, ambition, drive and temperance to any planet there.  However, Mars is exalted in Capricorn, he’s the honoured guest and as such more or less free to act as he deems fit. So, whereas Mars in Capricorn might indicate steady progress and the drive to work to achieve, it could also mean recklessness (acting without consideration of others) and even inhibition (being held back by fear or meeting with difficulties that hinder its progressive attitude)." t should be a fascinating holiday season. Let's observe how this OOB planetary energy moves and shakes our world.

The Week Ahead:

Saturday and Sunday, December 12-14, the Moon is in Libra, inviting us to engage in social connections. Saturday the Moon sextiles Venus, and Mercury sextiles Pluto. These are opportune aspects for social events and generative conversations. Mars squares Neptune the next few days which may feel like slowly driving in fog. Your energy may be low, or simply confused by possibilities. Sunday evening the Moon moves toward a square with Pluto that will occur near midnight. As the evening wears on, you may find yourself feeling intensely agitated about something and may need to release the stem. A hot bath before bedtime could be helpful. The square’s tension may also be harnessed to get a lot accomplished Sunday evening. On Sunday at 11:33 pm PST, Mars enters Capricorn where it is exalted. Mars in Capricorn strengthens careers and executive functions. My astrologer friend, Donna Stellhorn, did a 30-minute video on Mars transiting Capricorn. Here’s the link.

Monday and Tuesday, December 15-16, the Moon is in Scorpio. Monday, December 15, is the first day of Chanukah. These two days are good for strong work. Coming off the steam of the Moon-Pluto square, on Monday you can combine your strong feelings with determination and put in some hard work on a project. On Tuesday the Sagittarius Sun squares Saturn in Pisces. This is day to honor your commitments and get to work to check tasks off your list.

Wednesday through Friday, December 17-19, the Moon is in Sagittarius, and the Sun is in Sagittarius as well. These are super-optimistic, social days leading up to the Full Moon on Friday, December 19. The New Moon is at 5:43 p.m. at 28 degrees of Sagittarius, the Galactic Center. Donna Stellhorn wrote: “I think of it [the meaning of the Galactic Center] as the source of all the information in the galaxy. When the energy aligns with these degrees, you receive answers to the questions you’re asking.” My natal Moon happens to be at 27 degrees Sagittarius, the exact Galactic Center, and here I am giving you information about the planetary symbolism of the Cosmos.

Saturday and Sunday, December 20-21, the Moon is in Capricorn. The Sun and Venus square Saturn and Neptune. You could feel overwhelmed now with how much there is to do between now and Christmas. You may feel challenged, by the limits of your resources, to do all you want to do regarding holiday shopping or preparations. These days call for focus and awareness. Consider what is reasonable and possible. At the same time, these are the last days with the Sun in Sagittarius, so enjoy the weekend’s holiday gatherings and offerings.

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
