In the Stars December 8-15, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sun continues to shine in the exuberant, optimistic sign Sagittarius for two more weeks, fostering social activity, enthusiasm, and holiday euphoria.

Neptune turns direct on Saturday, December 7. Mercury is retrograde until December 15. The retrograde period is a good time for reflecting, reviewing, and revising.

The Full Moon occurs on Sunday, December 15, at 1:01 a.m. PST/9:01 GMT. This alignment hosts a stimulating, electric, jovial energy.

Note: December 29, 2024 will be my last weekly post of this blog. After writing this blog for 15 years, and posting weekly, the time has come for me move on from this weekly commitment. I have enjoyed writing this blog, and I am grateful for my dedicated readers. I have decided to open my time for other creative endeavors.

I have listed some alternate newsletters and podcasts at the bottom of this post, and will add more over the next two last posts.

Neptune stations on Saturday, December 7, turning direct in motion. The Moon moves into imaginative Pisces. Thus, the symbolism of Neptune and Pisces will be strong:  idealism, inspiration, creativity, compassion.  Neptune will keep moving forward through the last degrees of Pisces until it makes a significant shift into Aries on March 30, 2025. Another strong astrological feature of Saturday is that Ceres, Venus, and Pluto exactly align at 0 degrees of Aquarius. This combination of planets will amplify passions and strong feelings about love and family, both one’s immediate family and the communal, world family. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is “An Old Adobe Mission in California.” This is about acceptance of people’s diverse belief systems in a community, and acceptance of each person’s divinity. Express your love of family, community, and world concerns by donating time or money to a worthy cause. And wear a smile on your face for all you touch this day.

On Sunday, December 8, the Pisces Moon moves into a conjunction with Saturn, and both square the Sun and Jupiter, forming a tense T-square, though the mutability of this T-square eases some of the pressure. This alignment holds a lot of creative inspiration, so use it to manifest your dreams and ideas. As bedtime arrives, the Moon aligns with Neptune, inviting us into active dreaming while sleeping.

The Moon bounces into Aries early Monday, December 9, giving a bold, dynamic start to the work week. The cardinal fire Moon makes benefic alignments with Pluto, Ceres, Venus, and Mars, altogether giving a boost in productivity. This is a day to aim for your goals and reach them.

Tuesday, December 10, is an energetic, uplifting day as the Aries Moon aligns with Chiron and they make a benefic trine to the Sagittarius Sun. You can align yourself with your higher wisdom. Relationships can be healed, aided by a Saturn-Juno trine. The Moon is void of course from 2:13 p.m. PST through the Wednesday at 7:54 a.m. PST. After 2:13 p.m. PST. Your time is best used during the void Moon period to turn your attention to routine, insignificant tasks and steer away from meetings and tasks requiring decisions.

At 7:54 a.m. PST Wednesday, December 11, the Moon moves into Taurus and forms a tense, powerful square to Pluto. This is a day to get a lot practical tasks accomplished. Venus opposes Mars for the next few days, sparking creativity and passion. With the support of the Taurus Moon, Wednesday would be a good day to make your home sparkle for the holidays, cook some delicious food, and spruce up your yard. Listen to some inspiring music while you work.

Thursday, December 12, is a strong work day. The Taurus Moon draws us toward sensual pleasures. Enjoy good food, smells, and music. Evening may bring a surprising twist or turn as the Moon conjuncts Uranus.

The last day of the work week, Friday, December 13, may get off to a slow, winding start as the Moon is void of course from 4:38 a.m.-9:21 a.m. PST. At 9:21 a.m. PST the Moon moves into curious Gemini and makes a brilliant trine to Pluto, generating lots of ideas. The Moon makes benefic aspects to Venus and Mars, offering passionate thoughts and creativity. This will be a good day for solving problems and thinking about new activities.

Saturday, December 14, is an exuberant, joyful day. The Gemini Moon conjuncts expansive Jupiter, and they both oppose the Sagittarius Sun, with the Full Moon culminating just after midnight Sunday. Saturn squares the Moon/Jupiter-Sun opposition, keeping the enthusiasm in check and reminding us of limitations and responsibilities. This is a day for holiday parties (I’ve been invited to four). The alignments will enable us to have a grand time, with restraint. This will be helpful in limiting food and alcohol consumption, and not overstaying our welcome.

The Gemini Moon reaches its Fullness on Sunday, December 15 at 1:01 a.m. PST. This is a joyful, curious, social alignment. Holiday parties are blessed with this bright Moon. The Moon is void of course from 6:31-11:21 a.m. PST when it moves into Cancer, beckoning us to turn our attention to home, family, and tradition. Mercury stations to turn direct. Communication will start to clear, though there may be some mix-ups on this day as the trickster energy is strong. Be patient and forgiving of mistakes.

With the Moon in Cancer, Monday, December 16, is a good day to attend to the comforts of home. Decorate for the holidays if you have not done so already. It would be a good day to make festive cookies or comfort food. Mars trines Mercury, making for a gregarious, talkative day. Jupiter and Saturn square, creating tension between expansion and contraction.

Moon Void of Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.Void-of-Course Moon times for the month ahead (one lunar cycle):Pacific Standard Time:
