In the Stars February 19-26, 2023 ...Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: New Moon

The Sun now shines in Pisces tropically. A New Moon forms late Sunday, February 19, or the morning of February 20 depending on your time zone (7:05 a.m. GMT on February 20). Set intentions for hopes and dreams and an artistic endeavor this next lunar month.

Mars continues Out of Bounds (OOB) until May 4th. Planets are OOB when their declination is more than 23 degrees, 27 minutes. When planets are out of bounds their energy is wild, unique, and extraordinary. The planet expresses itself unbounded, or without limits. People may be much more courageous and outspoken than usual. Because Mars is explosive and impulsive, more volatile energy than usual may be unleashed.

Sunday is a day for friendships, especially for groups of friends to gather. On the other hand, since the Moon is dark most of the day, this may be a day when we want to withdraw to our own solitude. A Moon-Saturn conjunction calls for hard work. The New Moon in Pisces forms at 11:05 p.m. PST.

Monday is a day of new beginnings. The first day of the work week is framed for work, and attention on diversity, equity, and inclusion. A benefic Moon-Uranus sextile orients us toward freedom of expression, and a Moon-Mars square challenges us to keep things moving.

Tuesday hums with the sweetness of a Pisces Moon-Neptune conjunction early in the day. Yet, the day crackles with the quick-thinking, contrary, sharp-witted energy of the Mercury-Uranus square. Visionary realizations and insights abound.

An Aries Moon Wednesday heralds a bold, energetic day, buoyed by a Moon-Jupiter conjunction. A Mercury-Mars trine helps ignite and animate conversations. Self-care is encouraged in the evening, supported by a Moon-Chiron conjunction.

The high-spirited Aries Moon remains active on Thursday, and is more acrimonious due to a Moon-Eris conjunction and a Moon-Pluto square. Tempers may flare and fuses may be short, so aim to manage the storm that may brew. A benefic Moon-Saturn sextile may calm and stabilize the tempestuous energies.

Venus’ Day Friday is graced by the pleasurable Taurus Moon. Taurus is ruled by Venus, and the Moon is exalted here, as the Moon loves beauty and pleasure. The Sun makes opportune sextiles to the Moon and Neptune, uplifting the day.

Saturday’s Taurus Moon is conjunct with Uranus, and may result in some diversions or surprises. Otherwise, the day is calm. With the Moon in this practical, fixed earth sign, Saturday is framed for strong work. A benefic Moon-Neptune sextile in the evening invites us out to listen to music or to enjoy theater.

Early Sunday morning we feel the demand of work to be done with Tauris Moon’s square to Saturn followed by a trine to Pluto. Get up and get this day started early by taking care of business. The Moon moves into Gemini at 7:47 a.m. PST, inviting us to take an excursion to explore a place about which we have been curious. Take time to connect with siblings.

Ideas abound on Monday, an active day inviting curiosity and conversation. Use the restless feeling to put a short attention span on a variety of projects.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Gather with friends, or withdraw in solitude. This is a productive day for hard work.

Monday: Productive work day oriented toward concerns about equity, diversity, and inclusion. Keep moving.

Tuesday: Soft, sweet, imaginative day that crackles with insight.

Wednesday: Bold, energetic, expansive day. Be active and conversant.

Thursday: Testy day. Storms may brew. Stay calm and grounded.

Friday: Sensual, pleasurable strong work day.

Saturday: Industrious day with diversions. Enjoy art or music and a fine dinner.

Sunday: Tend to business early in the day, and then take an excursion. Connect with siblings.

Monday: Busy, restless day inviting short attention on a variety of matters.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for theext month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
