In the Stars February 4-11, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: Chinese New Year

The Sun and Pluto are now in Aquarius tropically. Mercury moves into Aquarius on Sunday, February 4, and Mars moves into Aquarius on Monday, February 12. The Moon is in Aquarius February 8 and 9, forming a New Moon. Mars is in Capricorn, where it is exalted, for one more week, giving strong energy for efficient output of work.

In addition to the significant shift of Pluto into Aquarius, we approach a Dragon Year in Chinese astrology that begins February 9th, making for tremendous creative opportunities over the year ahead. The Chinese Dragon represents authority, prosperity, and good fortune. The Wood Dragon year combines qualities of the dragon such as leadership, strength, and courage with qualities of the wood element such as flexibility, generosity, and growth. The Wood Dragon year ahead is one of great potential and prosperity. The Wood Dragon invites us to be adventurous and optimistic, and to make a positive impact on the world.

The Moon is in Sagittarius on Sunday and Monday, February 4-5. Sunday invites adventure, but Saturn’s square to the Moon mid-day demands discipline.  A vigorous hike nearby would suit. It would also be a good day to make travel plans. Mercury moves into Aquarius in the evening for the next 19 days, opening our minds to think outside the box and expand possibilities.

Mercury conjuncts Pluto on Monday, February 5th, giving power of concentration. Secrets may be revealed; conversations run deep. The day holds mixed aspects (Moon sextile Sun; Venus square Chiron; Mars square Eris; Moon square Neptune). Yet, the Sagittarius Moon is ruled by expansive Jupiter, so optimism prevails. Apply the alignments to projects requiring considered thought.

The Moon moves into industrious Capricorn Tuesday, February 6th. The Sun and Venus aspect the nodal axis, highlighting partnership history and current choices. A Moon-Saturn sextile helps us set good boundaries, and a Moon-Jupiter trine gives optimism and enthusiasm. This is a day to get a lot accomplished.

Wednesday, February 7 promises to be a lovely social day, supported by the Moon’s conjunction with Venus, and a Moon/Venus-Uranus trine. Venture into new territory. A Mars-Neptune sextile increases our willingness to take risks. However, there could be some upsets in the evening due to a Moon-Eris square and a Moon-Mars conjunction. Topping the day is the unpredictability of a Sun-Uranus square!

Thursday, February 8, starts with a powerful drive fueled by a Moon-Pluto conjunction. A Sun-Uranus square, coupled with the Moon and Pluto in Aquarius makes this an electric, inventive day. Sudden decisions may be triggered late by the Moon-Jupiter square. There may be some surprising twists and turns.

The New Moon in Aquarius occurs on Friday, February 9, ushering in the Chinese New Year of the Wood Dragon. A feature of this New Moon is that Uranus squares the Sun and Moon, encouraging innovation, and opening us up to progressive ideals and inclusive opportunities.

Saturday, February 10, is colored by an overzealous, confident Mercury-Jupiter square. The Moon is in dreamy Pisces on Saturday and Sunday. We will want to go with the flow, but a Moon-Saturn conjunction will remind us of boundaries and responsibilities. The day ends on a high note as the Moon sextiles Jupiter, giving optimism and exuberance.

Sunday, February 11, is an imaginative day. We desire a taste of something different (Moon sextile Uranus). The Super Bowl is on the schedule for the day, not exactly an activity well aligned with the day’s soft, dreamy energy. The evening invites pampering such as a hot bath and relaxing with an inspiring book, or watching a movie before sleep and dreamtime.

Monday, February 12, is bold and dynamic, and we are off to a strong start with our work week, punctuated by a Moon-Pluto sextile early in the day. Mars moves into Aquarius where it will be through March 22, drawing us into standing up for social justice and humanitarian causes about which we care.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
