In the Stars January 21, 2024 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

Photo left: Pluto

The Sun and Pluto conjunct on Saturday, January 20, and move into Aquarius. Mars and Mercury will be joined by Venus on Tuesday in the industrious sign of Capricorn. Saturn is the ruler of both Capricorn and Aquarius (ancient ruler of Aquarius), and symbolizes work and responsibility, so these are strong themes. Mars is exalted in Capricorn, giving strong energy for efficient output of work through February 12.

In addition to this significant shift of Pluto into Aquarius, we approach a Dragon Year in Chinese astrology that begins February 9th, making for tremendous creative opportunities. The Chinese Dragon represents authority, prosperity, and good fortune. In spite of the chaos in the world, this could be a year of new leaders with innovative, powerful agendas, and is a year for us all to step into our leadership potential.

Uranus turns direct on Friday, clearing the deck with all ten major planets in direct motion until April 2, when Mercury moves into retrograde motion. This week's themes are big change, innovation, freedom, and strong movement forward.

_______

Sunday, January 21, beckons us to take a short trips of discovery. Connect with a sibling. This is a day for conversation and community.

We may be faced with tension created by desire and confusion with the Moon squaring Neptune and opposing Venus on Monday, January 22. At 1:51 p.m. PST the Moon moves into Cancer, orienting us toward comfort for the next two days. Cozy up at home and give your space some love.

The planet of love and pleasure, Venus, enters Capricorn tropically on Tuesday, January 23, drawing us into a more serious and disciplined approach to relationship matters and finances for the next three weeks until February 16. (See below for ten things we can do with Venus in Capricorn). This time period with Venus in Capricorn invites stronger commitments in relationships. On Monday we are emotionally vulnerable, due to the Cancer Moon’s opposition to Mercury and Mars, and square to Chiron.

Wednesday, January 24, may be an emotionally volatile day with the Moon square Eris, and opposing Pluto as the day wears on. A Moon-Neptune trine softens the challenges, and enlarges our perspective.

A powerful Full Moon forms on Thursday, January 25th. The Aquarius Sun is closely conjunct Pluto, opposing the Leo Moon. The luminaries are squared by Jupiter, all in fixed signs. This is an exaggerated, determined, dramatic alignment. Use this dynamic energy to breathe more expansiveness into your life. Make a generous contribution to a favorite social cause. There is a long void Moon period beginning at 1:19 p.m. PST and continuing through Friday until 11:11 a.m. During this period it is best to focus on routine, insignificant tasks rather than important activities or shopping requiring decisions.

Friday’s big astrological event is Uranus stationing to turn direct in the evening. When a planet stations (stands still) and changes direction, its energy is potentiated. With Uranus stationary, this means that themes abound of restlessness, innovation, unexpected change, and freedom from restrictions. This is the last of the planets in many months to go direct. Now all planets are direct until Mercury goes retrograde April 2nd. With all planets direct the next two months, you can move projects forward rapidly. There are numerous aspects Friday with themes of self-healing and the need for freedom and expansion.

Mercury and Mars are conjunct in Capricorn on Saturday, January 27th, sharpening our minds and words. The weekend is a framed for work. A lot can be accomplished, so take advantage of these efficient and effective energies. Channeling this energy into a writing project would be a great use of this sharp, verbal energy. When speaking, watch a tendency to be too curt or blunt. These two planets are at the bending of the nodal axis, illuminating old patterns that may be outworn, and emerging new ones. After a slow morning, the Moon moves into Virgo, signaling the time of the month to get your life in ship-shape. A Venus-Saturn sextile gives calmness and emotional maturity for getting a lot accomplished. This is a lovely, lucky, productive day, so make the most of its offerings.

Although Sunday, January 28, is the Sabbath, a day of rest, rather this Sunday astrologically is an industrious work day. Most likely you feel the call to clean, organize, and check tasks off your list. The Virgo Moon amplifies the benefic trine aspect of Venus in Capricorn and Jupiter in Taurus, especially in the early morning hours. At the end of the day, you will be amazed at how much you have accomplished, and how much you enjoyed it.

Monday’s main event is a Mars-Uranus trine in earth signs. This is an innovative, creative combination capable of extraordinary hard work and breakthroughs.  As the afternoon wears on, the Moon opposes Neptune, softening our focus. We drift into a gracious, relaxing evening, satisfied with the many accomplishments of the last few days.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Take a short trip and open to discovery. Good day for conversation and community.

Monday: Tense, confusing start to the day. By afternoon we are seeking comfort and company at home with family.

Tuesday: Emotionally vulnerable day. Tend to family matters.

Wednesday: Volatile day with challenging energies. Take a wider perspective on difficult matters.

Thursday:  Full Moon. Open to greater creativity and expansion in your life, and make a generous contribution for the good of humanity.

Friday: Uranus turns direct. Strong urge for freedom of expression. Expect the unexpected.

Saturday: Speech may be direct and blunt; direct the energy into a writing project. The rest of the weekend is dedicated to organization and getting your life in good order.

Sunday: Industrious work day. Lean in with vigor, intention, and efficiency, and you will be amazed by what you can accomplish.

Monday: Innovative, creative, industrious day. We are satisfied by the tremendous work we have accomplished over the last few days.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
