In the Stars July 20-27, 2025 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

Sun in Leo July 22-August 22
Sun in Leo July 22-August 22

On Monday, July 22 the Sun moves into Leo. It is time for a vacation! Leo loves to lead, shine, and have fun. Leo is generous and lion-hearted. Be bold and courageous during the next month, drinking in the energy of the Sun.

A New Moon perfects on Thursday, July 24, at 2 degrees Leo. Pluto is exactly opposite the Sun and Moon, giving transformative power. This planetary pattern will draw you down into depths of matters. There could be a deep realization, or a powerful letting go. The opportunity is to allow some way of being that is old and worn out to die, and clear the way for a rebirth. Consider what needs big change in your life.

Saturn and Mercury have turned retrograde, joining Neptune and Pluto. The Mercury retrograde period will last three weeks through August 11. This period gives us an opportunity to finish uncompleted tasks, and to review, reconsider, review, revise, and re-do. Observe how your thinking changes during the retrograde period about some things that have been in motion. The Mercury retrograde period is best used to review and finish what is already in motion rather than start something new. It is a time to handle your backlog of email.

Mars in Virgo through August 6 is urges self-discipline, building an exercise routine, and getting detailed tasks completed.

Venus is now in Gemini, highlighting communication, siblings, and short-distance excursions. Uranus is now in Gemini, bringing change to communication systems. Innovations will be forthcoming rapidly. In July and August Uranus will be trine Pluto in Aquarius, supercharging the themes of Uranus in Gemini. Saturn and Neptune will be in Aries at the midpoint between Uranus and Pluto in sextile aspect. This will be a potent combination for ideas, innovations, and information.

The Week Ahead; All times below in Pacific Time:

Sunday and Monday, July 20-21, the Moon is in conversant Gemini. Call a sibling for a chat. Meet a friend for coffee and conversation. Take a short trip. Mars and the South Node are tightly conjunct for the next four days, a hot combination. Watch what you say and go carefully, as there will be an unconscious tendency to over-react and be more aggressive than is helpful.

Tuesday, July 22, the Sun moves into brilliant Leo, ushering in a month to express yourself boldly and courageously. Tuesday and Wednesday, July 22-23, the Moon is in home and family-oriented Cancer. Mars is conjunct the South Node exactly, generating tension and irritation. Venus squares the nodal axis and Mars, creating friction between the familiar and something new. This configuration harbors nervous energy. Channel it into possibilities. Think about how to connect with people in new ways that could be beneficial. Keep your cool! The Moon squares Saturn and Neptune, widening our vision as well as giving it structure. You may face the truth and practicality of an expansive idea.

The New Moon in Leo occurs Thursday, July 24 at 12:10 p.m. PDT.  As mentioned above, Pluto is exactly opposite the Sun and Moon, making this a super-powerful lunation. This potent configuration invites big change, the death-and-rebirth kind of change. Be open to some powerful endings and new starts in your life. Saturn and Neptune are trine the New Moon, and will help ease the change. The Moon is in playful, exuberant Leo Thursday through mid-day Saturday.

Saturday afternoon through Monday, July 26-28, the Moon is in Virgo. Time to clean up and put your life in order. Expect something surprising on Saturday as the Moon squares Uranus. Plans may not go as expected. These are days to take advantage of the grounded, practical energy available. The task orientation comes at a great time for me as I will be preparing for a three-week trip to Europe that begins Monday, July 28.

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
