In the Stars May 21-28, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week
The Sun is now in Gemini tropically, the sign symbolized by twins. Here the focus is on curiosity and discovery, short distance travel, and learning new skills, languages, and facts. This month invites us to explore our nearby surroundings. It beckons us to learn something new, to engage in generative conversations, and to make meaningful connections.
The early part of the week ahead is a dynamic one, full of tension, due to a Grand Cross pattern that is at play with Mars opposite Pluto, and this opposition square to Jupiter and the nodal axis. Mars opposite Pluto is fiery and determined. Jupiter exaggerates the energy through its square to Mars and Pluto. This pattern may result in excessive aggression, and personally may be challenging. It can also be employed to get a lot accomplished.

The Sun enters Gemini tropically on Sunday, ushering in a month of curiosity, connection, and community. The Sun’s trine to Pluto, coupled with the Grand Cross at play, makes for another powerful day. The Sun-Mars sextile encourages creative ideas and generative conversations.
The Mars-Jupiter square perfects on Monday, May 22, part of the tense Grand Cross with Pluto and the nodal axis. The Moon is in Cancer, calling attention to home and family matters. A Moon-Saturn trine offers practicality and responsibility in dealing with the day’s challenges. However, the magnitude of the demands of the Grand Cross are enormous. Buckle up. Give this day your best, and go slowly and consciously.
Tuesday, May 23, has numerous mixed energies making for an interesting day. The Cancer Moon conjuncts Venus, creating a cozy, homey setting. Then the Moon’s sextile to Uranus may throw a curve ball into the mix, freeing us from routine. A Moon-Eris square stirs discontent. The day is crowned with a benefic Moon-Neptune trine that soothes difficult feelings and provides a visionary, forgiving perspective.
Wednesday, May 24, holds a creative Leo Moon. The day sports a great deal of power and potential, starting early with Pluto opposing the Moon. This exact aspect is followed by a Moon-Jupiter square and then a Moon-Mars conjunction. These planets (Pluto, Mars, Jupiter, and the Moon) form a T-square, an aspect full of tension that can propel us into action. This could be a day to take big leaps, or pay attention to the meaning of big obstacles in your path. The day holds a lot of passion, aggression, and dynamic potential.
Relationship issues may emerge on Thursday, May 25, as a result of the Gemini Sun’s semi-square to Venus. A Moon-Uranus square can make us feel cut-off from others, or desiring independence. On the other hand, Venus’ benefic alignment with Uranus can help us figure out new solutions to relationship issues. Our attention may be called for on financial matters as well.
Tension continues with the planetary energy of the tense Grand Cross on Friday, May 26 with Mars squaring the nodal axis. The Moon-Eris trine adds to the intensity of energy. The Moon is void of course all day and evening until 8:04 p.m. PDT. When the Moon is void things don’t come together and decisions are often later found to be unsound. This is a day to read, work in your garden, or take care of routine tasks not requiring consequential decisions.
Saturday and Sunday, May 27-28, are set for putting your life in order, framed by the Virgo Moon. On Saturday the Moon squares the Sun and opposes Saturn, forming a T-square that demands attending to responsibilities. A Moon-Uranus trine on Sunday loosens the tension, and we may find some unusual, intuitive ways of handling the load of chores to be done. This weekend is not one for play and relaxing, but rather one for addressing work that needs to be done.
The focus is on relationships on Monday, May 29, The Libra Moon makes benefic aspects to Pluto and Mars, fueling transformative conversations and relationship connections. A Moon-Sun trine in the evening offers favorable outcomes.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
