In the Stars April 18-25, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week

The Sun and Mercury move into Taurus on Monday, highlighting beauty, pleasure, and all things sensual for the next month. It is time for planting and growing things, and for walking in nature. Fill your life with beauty and abundance, and indulge yourself a bit.

A strong theme this week is the Saturn-Uranus square that mixes with Venus and Mercury. These planetary combinations offer opportunities to clear up communication in relationships, make improvements in your financial strategies, and shore up your projects and intentions.

From a Vedic astrological point of view, the Sun and Mercury moved over the gandanta point this past week. The gandanta is a very sensitive, volatile, unsettled point when a planet changes from water to fire sidereally. The Sun moved through this point April 12th-13th and Mercury April 15th-16th. This corresponds with the violence this past week: two outrageous police shootings of black men, and the Indianapolis Fedex Shootings.

Sunday morning the Moon and Uranus make a benefic sextile, an aspect that may deliver something surprising. The day calls for things new and different. Make a trip to the nursery and plant something different in your yard. Cook a new dish and freshen your home. The Sun and Mercury conjoin, focusing us on matters of home and family.

Both Mercury and the Sun enter Taurus on Monday evening. Taurus is the zodiacal sign that symbolizes all things pleasurable. Good food, good music, and walks in nature are in order for the next month. Tension is eased Monday with a Moon-Neptune trine, but a Moon-Pluto opposition amplifies emotions. The Moon forms its first quarter square with the Sun, signaling a time to get going on the month’s goals.

Tuesday is a highly charged day. With the Sun now in the fertile sign of Taurus, it is time for new plantings of flowers and vegetables, and also of projects, particularly with themes of growing money and relationships. The Leo Moon forms a T-square, the Moon being opposite Saturn and square to Uranus and Venus. Unexpected changes may occur with matters of love or money. Jupiter and Pluto make a minor aspect, affirming big shifts. This is a day to lead in a powerful and playful way.

Wednesday’s exuberant Leo Moon opposes Jupiter, and generates enthusiasm. We can find creative solutions to relationship issues. Be playful and creative in your work.

Thursday through Sunday the ongoing Saturn-Uranus square is highlighted, tightly aspecting Mercury and Venus. On Thursday Venus is exactly conjunct Uranus. On Friday Mercury is exactly conjunct Uranus. Saturday Venus exactly squares Saturn, and Sunday Mercury conjuncts Venus and squares Saturn. Venus symbolizes relationships and money; Mercury symbolizes communication. The Saturn-Uranus square pushes change in old structures, as well as discovery and innovation. There’s a lot of energy in this mix to resolve relationship issues through changing old worn-out structures and finding breakthrough solutions.

Thursday and Friday invite us on a practical course to put our lives in order. With the Moon and Mercury in a benefic trine, practical solutions may be generated. Surprising things may happen. On Friday Mars enter Cancer tropically, its sign of fall, or where it does not function so well. In Cancer Mars is prone to defensiveness and withdrawal, so move consciously with this placement. Mars in Cancer works best when it flows. Friday evening’s Moon-Neptune opposition calls for relaxation.

Saturday is bookended by two strong aspects. Early morning the Moon trines Pluto, stirring strong emotions and enabling a power surge of energy. The end of the day holds an exact Saturn-Venus square, which may highlight relationship issues. You may meet with boundaries and limitations in financial matters.

Sunday offers another opportunity to resolve relationship issues. We want to socialize, and to surround ourselves with beauty.

The work week begins with a Moon-Pluto square on Monday, stirring emotions. The Moon is Full in Scorpio, continuing the theme of deep, passionate feelings that were churned up at dawn. The Full Moon forms a powerful square to Saturn and the Sun is conjunct Uranus. Thus, this Full Moon highlights the Saturn-Uranus conjunction. The planets in this Full Moon configuration are in fixed signs; thus, there is a great amount of determination and resolve to highlight issues and figure out sound steps forward.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
