In the Stars August 21-28, 2022 ... Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: New Moon

The Sun arrives in Virgo on Monday, August 22 tropically. Uranus turns retrograde on Wednesday, beginning its five-month backward travel. Uranus joins Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in retrograde motion, all of the outer planets. This is a time for deep introspection and reconsideration.

Mars has moved into Gemini for a long seven-month stay in Gemini due to its retrograde motion that begins October 10. During this extended period we will be more open to new ideas and perspectives, and we may speak more freely. Our appetites for engaging in education and communication will increase. Gear up to read, converse, write, listen, and learn.

Sunday’s Gemini Moon is positioned in the midst of a tense, mutable T-square with the Neptune and Mercury. The best potential for this strong aspect would be vision and mental clarity on various issues. We consider various perspectives.

Monday’s Cancer Moon beckons us to work from home if possible. The Sun ingresses into Virgo in the evening. Mercury trines Pluto, sharpening our mental acumen and ability to get to the heart of matters,

A benefic Moon-Uranus sextile on Tuesday morning energizes the day with excitement. This is bound to be a transformative day before we turn out the lights. The Moon trines Neptune, evoking compassion and vision, to be followed by the Moon’s intersection with the revelatory change energy of the Eris-Pluto square. Planetary energies invite change in family structures and emotional matters.

The Moon moves into Leo on Wednesday, giving confidence and courage. Uranus stations to turn retrograde, beginning its five-month backward spin until January 22. When planets are stationary, their energy is extra strong. Thus, themes of chaos, surprise, and freedom will be prevalent. A Moon-Jupiter trine in the evening gives optimism and exuberance, but such feelings may be toned down by Venus squaring the nodal axis. This day has potential for breaking free of ties that bind.

Thursday the playful Leo Moon conjuncts Ceres and Venus, and trines Chiron, all together strengthening bonds with family and loved ones. Later in the day the Moon activates the Uranus-Saturn square that is growing tighter, heralding change and breakthroughs.

The Moon is void of course all day Friday until 5:25 p.m. PDT. When the Moon is void we are not clear about making decisions. Use this time for routine, inconsequential matters, including reading or gardening. The evening’s Venus-Uranus square invites unusual social situations. Since the Moon is dark, you may want to draw inward. A Sun-Mars square may provoke sharp words and heated tempers. Stay cool. Plan for a powerful weekend of great accomplishment.

The New Moon in Virgo forms on Saturday, signaling time to get organized and put things in order. Set goals, and make lists if that works for you; put on your work clothes, and get ready to clean and tidy. Mars makes a tight square, giving the zest to get a lot accomplished. Make the most of this weekend to clear clutter and take care of details demanding attention.

Sunday is framed with a benefic trine from the Moon to Uranus early in the day, and a trine to Pluto at the end of the day. These aspects are in earth signs, giving practicality and grounding to get a lot accomplished. There could be some disruption in plans in the morning, but if so, follow the energy. A Venus-Saturn opposition calls attention to duty and the work that needs to be done, while a Moon-Neptune opposition keeps our eyes on the prize and gives vision and inspiration.

Monday, August 29th, is my birthday! The Moon is in relationship-oriented Libra, conjunct Mercury, seeking cooperation and harmony. The Moon also makes a benefic trine to Mars, and opposes Jupiter, giving energy and enthusiasm for the finer things in life and relating socially.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
