In the Stars December 10-17, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

The Sagittarius New Moon forms on Tuesday, December 12 at 3:32 p.m. PST. There is hope and possibility in this New Moon. Set new goals for the area of your life where this New Moon lands, or since it is in Sagittarius, It invites visions and goals regarding higher learning, travel, and worldly matters. Neptune squares the New Moon, adding a cloudy, uncertain effect, as well as psychic potential. Intuition is strong.

Mercury turns retrograde on December 12 (13 Eastern time) for a three-week backward spin until January 2nd. When Mercury is retrograde, there are often mix-ups and mistakes with written and spoken words. Also there are sometimes breakdowns with appliances, cars, and equipment. During the Mercury retrograde period it is good to review and revise, so complete contracts and agreements and make decisions and arrangement before the three-week retrograde period sets in during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays through January 4th.

Sunday morning, December 10, may bring some surprises due to the Moon’s opposition to Uranus. The evening’s Moon-Neptune trine offers compassion and forgiveness, as well as inspiration. This would be a good night to relax and watch a movie.

Monday and Tuesday are merry and bright with the Sun and Moon in Sagittarius. The Moon’s square to Saturn Monday morning, December 11, reminds us of limitations and responsibilities. An agreeable Mercury-Venus sextile lifts our spirits and offers easy, generous acts of kindness. Spread good cheer.

The New Moon in Sagittarius forms at 3:32 p.m. PST Tuesday, December 12. Set goals for the area of your life where the New Moonoccurs at 20:40 Sagittarius. This New Moon squares Neptune, and this aspect, coupled with Mercury’s station to move retrograde, may bring cloudy thinking and carelessness. On the other hand, Intuition is strong, and we are opened to magic and possibilities. This is a social day, as Sagittarius loves a party. Be mindful about when you’ve had enough food and drink, as Sagittarius can be prone to excess.

The Moon moves into industrious Capricorn on Wednesday, December 13. A Moon-Saturn sextile gives additional grounding and a desire to tend to responsibilities. Toward evening the Moon conjuncts Mercury retrograde, drawing us to reflect on how we can better handle the tasks before us.

Self-determination is strong on Thursday, December 14 against the backdrop of the Capricorn Moon, which trines Uranus in the afternoon, sparking a need for independence. Break out of routine, and do something new or work in a new way. A Sun-North Node trine shines light on our purpose, our True North.

The Moon conjuncts Pluto in the last degrees of Capricorn on Friday morning, December 15, at 8:04 a.m. PST, giving a final push to finish the work week strong. The Moon moves into Aquarius at 9:55 a.m. PDT., moving us toward concerns with organizations and social causes. The Moon squares Jupiter in the evening, which can lure us toward excess or make us feel overextended. However, it is a good evening to socialize with friends.

Saturday is a day of mixed aspects and energies, some positive, others challenging. The Aquarius Moon likes chaos and diversity. The Sun squares Neptune, amplifying deception, but also vision and imagination. The Moon squares Venus and Uranus; there may be conflicts in relationships regarding the need for space and independence. At the same time, surprising new means of fun may emerge.

Sunday morning, December 17, is a lazy one as the Moon is void of course until 11:48 a.m when the Moon moves into Pisces. You may as well enjoy a leisurely breakfast and reading of the Sunday paper or puttering around your house in the morning, as void of course energy in undefined.  The Moon conjuncts Saturn, focusing us on plans, goals, and duties. The mood is more upbeat in the evening as the Moon sextiles both Mercury and Jupiter.

On Monday, December 18 Mercury retrograde makes an optimistic benefic trine to Jupiter, expanding our thinking. These planets are in earth signs create an excellent time for planning. A Moon-Venus trine in water signs Pisces and Scorpio respectively gives a romantic, passionate energy. Later in the day the Moon makes an edgy, tense square to Mars; however the Moon sextiles Uranus, enabling us to snap out of a tense moment

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
