In the Stars December 19-26, 2021...shining light on the astrology of the week
The Winter Solstice is Tuesday, December 2, the shortest day in the northern hemisphere, marking the beginning of winter. Venus conjuncts Pluto for the rest of December, sparking deep, passionate feelings. Venus turns retrograde on December 20th, and December 24-26 Venus and Pluto are exactly conjunct at 25 degrees of Capricorn. This aspect may fuel passion, and may stir relationships, for better or worse. Those with planets at 22-27 degrees of earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) or cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn) are most influenced by this aspect. Financial issues may loom large and need to be confronted.
We are now in a long Kala Sarpa Yoga period (a Vedic Astrology alignment) when all of the planets are hemmed in between the North and South Nodes, except for the two weeks each month when the Moon breaks through. This is a tense, restrictive energy which will be in effect from December 13-April 24. We may feel blocked, but that feeling can be transformed into focus and generation through limitation. When something is not happening, one can turn the limitation into focus on something else.
The Saturn-Uranus square tightens toward its third exact aspect December 23rd at 11 degrees of Aquarius-Taurus. This aspect carries strong winds of change.

Sunday is full of planetary shifts and complex energies. The Moon moves into home and family-oriented Cancer. Venus stations to move retrograde within one degree of Pluto, intensifying relationship issues. Chiron also stations, moving direct in motion. The Moon makes challenging aspects to Chiron and Mercury. An uplifting Sun-Jupiter sextile gives optimism, and helps us through challenges or difficulties in the day.
Monday sports a brilliant Mercury-Uranus trine, pouring forth ideas and solutions to problems. The Moon-Neptune trine gives vision and inspiration.
Tuesday is the Winter Solstice, the Sun moving into Capricorn at 7:59 a.m. PDT. The day marks the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere, and the beginning of summer in the southern hemisphere. The morning is emotionally challenging with the Cancer Moon opposite Pluto. Thankfully, the day eases when the Moon arrives in the enthusiastic, playful sign of Leo at 1:53 p.m. PDT after a long void moon period all morning (6:43 a.m. – 1:53 p.m. PDT).
The Leo Moon ignites the Saturn-Uranus square that perfects on Thursday. The Moon opposes Saturn and squares Uranus. This aspect demands change. Saturn illuminates limitations, and confronts us with what needs to change. Uranus is innovative and finds new ways of doing things. This third and final exact Saturn-Uranus square is an opportunity. Consider how you want to alter your life in the new year. How will you break out of your current limitations, ruts, insufficiencies, and dissatisfactions?
Christmas Eve Friday is colored by a Virgo Moon. Because Virgo is perfectionistic, we may ruminate on how we have fallen short for the holidays. The best of Virgo is efficient, organized, and effective, so put this energy to good work creating the best holiday possible. A Mars-Moon square generates pushy, controlling energy, so take care not to be irritated by pressure and expectations.
Christmas Day’s powerful aspect is the conjunction of retrograde Venus and Pluto. On one hand this combination can lead us to deeper relationships and more honesty, especially if 25 degrees of Capricorn figures significantly into your horoscope. On the other hand, we can be more suspicious and get hooked into power struggles. Certainly, passions are stirred. A Moon-Mercury trine in earth signs focuses on practical matters, yet a Moon-Neptune opposition uplifts us toward worldly concerns.
The Moon moves into Libra on Sunday, December 26th, offering some grace for the unmet high expectations of the Virgo Moon over the last two holiday days. We ease into the day with a benefic Mercury-Neptune sextile that supports easy conversations and inspired writing.
A Moon-Saturn trine in air signs Monday morning supports collaboration, problem solving, and planning. With the Moon in Libra, relationships are a theme, and are supported. Enjoy social connections on Monday as you continue to celebrate the holidays.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
