In the Stars January 11-18, 2026 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week

Winter
Winter

The Sun shines in Capricorn tropically for another 10 days, along with Mercury, Venus and Mars. This week again Mars, Venus, and the Sun again are within two degrees of each other.  On Wednesday, Mercury joins the Capricorn conjunction as well. The Moon has reached its fourth quarter, so now it is time to wrap the goals and wishes of the Last New Moon that was at 28 degrees of Sagittarius. The New Moon  at 28:43 Capricorn perfects on Sunday, January 18 at 11:51 a.m. PST.

Mercury is the only planet out of bounds (OOB) now, as Mars, Moon, and Venus have left the OOB space. Mercury will be OOB through January 15. A planet is out of bounds when its declination is greater than 23:26 degrees south or north of the ecliptic. When planets are OOB their activity is more unruly, erratic, and free.

The next five days harbor potential for creative thinking and doing things differently.

The Week Ahead:

Saturday, January 10, the Moon is in Libra. Saturday is an especially challenging day. Jupiter in Cancer opposes the Sun, Mars, and Venus in Capricorn. Saturday morning the Moon forms a tense T-square with these opposing planets, and then the Moon is void of course nearly all day from 9:54 a.m. through Sunday at 2:55 a.m.  If you are planning to do some after-Christmas weekend shopping, do it on Sunday rather than Saturday. Saturday is best spent on inconsequential household tasks. Avoid potentially heated situations prone to conflict.

Sunday through Tuesday afternoon, January 10-12, the Moon is in Scorpio. Feelings run strong, especially when the Moon is in later degrees Scorpio Monday and Tuesday, and trines Jupiter in Cancer and Saturn and Neptune in Pisces. You may want to withdraw and take some quiet time for yourself. The Scorpio Moon makes an opportune sextile to Mars, the Sun, and Venus on Monday evening, and opposes Uranus early Tuesday. The energies support continuing productivity, especially with issues requiring research or deep problem solving.

Tuesday afternoon through Thursday, January 12-14, the Moon is in Sagittarius. These winter days are buoyed with optimism and a drive for adventure by the Sagittarius Moon. On Thursday late in the day the Moon squares Saturn and Neptune, creating tension and confusion. You may feel overextended on Wednesday, in which case, dial back your schedule and give yourself special care such a massage or health treatment. Thursday Mercury opposes Jupiter and Venus makes a benefic sextile to Saturn. This would be a great day to work on a writing project or to create a financial plan.

Friday through Sunday afternoon, January 16-18, the Moon is in Capricorn. As the Moon moves into Capricorn Friday, it signals an industrious, productive time of the month. Move forward and make things happen. The Sun trines Uranus on Saturday, galvanizing change. On Sunday morning, January 18, this Capricorn Moon perfects in a New Moon and also joins Mercury, Mars, and Venus, in addition to the Sun. The Moon also approaches Pluto where it will be later in the day. This is a super strong, demanding alignment. Sunday offers a social day, as Mercury trines Uranus and sextiles Saturn and Neptune. Make the most of the great potential of these few days.

Sunday afternoon through Tuesday, January 18-20, the Moon is in Aquarius. Sunday evening the Aquarius Moon joins Pluto, generating a powerful energy which could be explosive, or used for transformation for good. Aquarius symbolizes friendship and concern for the welfare of humanity. We could use a big dose of the best of Aquarius’ offerings now. Spread good will to immigrant, impoverished, and oppressed people in our world.

Moon Void of Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
