In the Stars January 30-February 5, 2022...shining light on the astrology of the week:

The Aquarius New Moon, which sets the beginning of the Chinese New Year, occurs on January 31 at 9:46 p.m. PST. This is the year of the Water Tiger, an enthusiastic year of risk-taking, adventure, and big changes. There may be disruptions and big leaps.

Mercury is in its last days of retrograde motion. On Thursday, February 3, it will turn direct in motion, though it will be in its shadow phase through February 14. I have seen Mercury retrograde in motion recently through my job as Admissions Manager for the Certificate in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research at the California Institute of Integral Studies. So many people have changed their minds about whether or not they want to do the program and which cohort they prefer. Mercury retrogrades periods are times to re-think, revise, and renovate. If you are thinking of signing a contract or making a definitive decision about a project, wait until after February 3 to do so.

This week the Sun and Saturn are conjunct, and square to Uranus. We may see more social unrest and revolution. On a personal level, it is a good week to allow Saturn to be your task master and make progress on projects and responsibilities. With the influence of Uranus to the Sun and Saturn, in addition to the beginning of the Year of the Tiger, it would also be a good week to make radical changes in your life for the better.

There are eight celestial bodies now in earth signs: Mars, Vesta, Venus, Mercury, Pluto, and Juno in Capricorn, and Uranus in Taurus, as well as the North Node. In addition, the Moon is in Capricorn Saturday and Sunday, January 30 and 31. With these strong placements in earth signs, the next two weeks are industrious ones. Plan to attend to practical matters and get a lot accomplished.

The Sun-Uranus square perfects on Sunday, and thus, the day may not go as planned. However, you can get a lot accomplished with the true grit of the stellium of planets in Capricorn. Set limits and goals, and get to work. The football playoff games will likely be as exciting and full of twists and turns as they were last weekend.

Monday is the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Tiger. The Moon is in Aquarius and expresses as free and independent, and interested in others. The Moon squares Uranus, and later will conjunct Saturn in the early hours of Tuesday. The Moon is at its darkness until it aligns in a New Moon at 9:45 p.m. PST. Take some time for solitude. Expect surprises and new information to be revealed.

Yesterday’s New Moon in Aquarius anchors in a conjunction with Saturn on Tuesday morning. The New Moon and new month are launched with the imprint of the Saturn-Uranus square. Breakdown and breakthroughs begin to result in solidification and change. Set serious goals for change, and consider how you will be a stronger, better citizen of the world.

Wednesday is an expansive day. The Moon embarks on the waters of the Pisces Moon. We feel supported as the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. The Moon/Jupiter conjunction forms opportune sextiles with Venus and Uranus. This enthusiastic combination of planetary energy is fortunate and supports artistic expression. We may be blessed with a nice surprise.

Thursday is a day to pause, relax, and retreat. The Pisces Moon conjuncts Neptune, and draws us toward inspiration and repose. Mercury stations and turns direct, though it will remain in its shadow phase until February 14. There could be some mix-ups. Unleash your sense of humor and go with the flow.

We welcome Friday with a bounce as the Moon enters Aries. Get going with some vigorous exercise! A benefic Mars-Jupiter sextile may help you take a leap in your life. However, the Sun’s alignment with Saturn reminds us first to address our responsibilities. We may feel irritated by demands and delays, but they simply must be addressed and tolerated.

Saturday the Aries Moon makes a benefic sextile alignment with the Sun/Saturn conjunction. This is a day for action and tending to responsibilities.

On Sunday the Moon is void of course until 2:52 p.m. PST when it moves into Taurus. During this time nothing significant is likely to come together, so focus on routine household tasks, or take a walk in nature, work in your garden, or read a book. Settle into a comfortable evening, and plan your week ahead.

Monday is illuminated with an exalted Taurus Moon. Expect the unexpected and honor the restrictions of a Moon-Saturn square. Enjoy a walk in a beautiful setting.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
