In the Stars July 12-19, 2020...shining light on the astrology of the week

Mercury turns direct on Sunday, July 12th, though it will still be in its shadow until July 26th, so there can still be a bit of confusion, some mix-ups, and mechanical breakdowns. The Sun is in its final week in tropical Cancer, drawing us to home, family, tradition, and issues of security. While Mercury turns direct, Chiron turns retrograde joining asteroid Pallas Athena and Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter, and Neptune in backwards motion.

This week the Sun opposes the Jupiter/Pluto/Saturn alignment. Using the energy for good, we are called to stretch into our power and make great strides. At its worst, these opposing alignments with the Sun may correspond with extreme power and manipulation. We will probably see more exaggerated issues in world events and politics, and with the markets. In the night sky, Jupiter and Saturn will be visible in the southeast, with Saturn to the left, or east, of Jupiter.

Sunday’s energy is wound tight and entangled. Mercury turns direct, although slow and stationary when turning direction. The day is mixed. The brash, impulsive Aries Moon makes numerous edgy square aspects. Our impulse will be toward courage and adventure. Go slowly and carefully, and be mindful of your choices and actions.

We experience a slow start Monday as the Moon is void of course from 8:54 a.m. to 10:34 a.m. PDT when the Moon moves into Taurus, its sign of exaltation, or where it is strongest. Then we settle into a comfortable, cozy day. We are drawn to practical matters and all things sensual and beautiful. A Sun-Jupiter opposition colors the day and the next couple following, expanding the energies of the week.

Tuesday and Wednesday are powerful days, as the Sun opposes Jupiter and Pluto. Tuesday is an expansive, uplifting day (Sun exactly opposite Jupiter). Vary your routine on Tuesday morning as the Moon conjuncts Uranus, the planet that shakes things up. The exalted Taurus Moon is practical and steady, so it can handle the surprises that may surface.

Wednesday the Sun exactly opposes Pluto, with Jupiter close by, but waning. The Taurus Moon makes numerous benefic aspects. This is a day to step into your power, confront the shadow, and sally forth with your feet on solid ground.

Thursday is a light-hearted day that makes conversations easy and invites curiosity. Move about, and allow your attention to wander in several different directions.

A Moon-Neptune square on Friday can make for cloudy, diffuse thinking. Otherwise it is soft and easy. The Moon becomes void of course at 2:15 p.m. A Zoom call with friends of family would be welcome and fun. How about playing a game of Scrabble or cards on Friday evening?

Saturday and Sunday are framed for home and family, with the Moon, as well as Mercury and the Sun, in Cancer. Work in your yard and garden, and cook some comforting food. Touch base with family member. Sunday is particularly energized for action. The Moon is dark as a New Moon forms Monday. Be sure to take some solitude as you reflect on the past month’s lunar cycle.

A New Moon aligns at 10:12 a.m. Monday at 28:27 Cancer, exactly opposed to Saturn and opposed within orb to Jupiter and Pluto. Both the Moon and Saturn are strong in their ruling signs, Cancer and Capricorn respectively. These qualities give balance and grounding to the limitations and challenges that may emerge from this alignment which may be concerned with home, family, and property. A brief void Moon period forms from 10:55 – 1:16 p.m. PDT. followed by the Moon’s bounce into Leo. A little playfulness in the afternoon and evening can lighten the load of the heaviness of the New Moon.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
