In the Stars June 18-25, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: Summer Solstice

The Summer Solstice arrives Wednesday, June 21, when the Sun crosses from Gemini to Cancer tropically. This is the longest day with the most light in the northern hemisphere, and the greatest darkness in the southern hemisphere.

For a few more days until Wednesday, June 21, the Sun continues to shine in curious Gemini. These next few days would be good for determining summer travel plans. The Sun moves into Cancer on Wednesday, focusing us on home and family for the next solar month. Picnics and family gatherings are in order, as is gardening and sprucing up our homes.

Saturn stationed on Saturday, June 17, and is now retrograde at 7 degrees of Pisces. In the coming week Saturn forms a sextile with Jupiter in Taurus. This aspect offers courage, decisiveness, optimism, and good judgment. We can make great strides toward our goals and intentions.

The week's photo was taken while Kayaking on a river in Braunschweig, Germany.

On Sunday, June 18, the Moon moves into Cancer, still in its New Moon phase, focusing us on home and family. The Sun-Neptune square softens our focus, encouraging us to be inspired and dream bigger.

Monday, June 19 (Juneteenth), Jupiter and Saturn form a benefic sextile at 7 degrees of Taurus and Pisces, in effect for most of the last week, as well as the next week. The combination expands realistic ideas. It offers courage, decisiveness, and mastery. Optimism and good judgment are influences. Some deep thinking and agitation is stirred up by Mercury’s hard angle to Pluto. A benefic Moon-Uranus sextile in the evening breaks apart any difficult emotional issues.

Planetary activity gives a mixture of heavy and light aspects on Tuesday, June 20th. The heavy: Moon-Eris square and Moon-Pluto opposition. We may be on the defensive with emotional slights. Sensitivity of feelings is strong, as well as determination. The Light: Moon-Neptune trine and Ceres-Pluto trine aspects make the day’s challenges easier and we are able to forgive and move on. The Moon moves into Leo at 2:43 p.m. giving playfulness and buoyancy for the rest of the day.

The Summer Solstice arrives Wednesday, June 21, when the Sun crosses from Gemini to Cancer tropically. This is the day of the most light in the northern hemisphere, and the greatest darkness in the southern hemisphere. Mercury sextiles Mars and Chiron, expanding our thinking. The Moon and Venus conjunct in fun-loving Leo, opening our hearts to friends and loved ones.

June 22, Thursday’s major influence is a Mars-Chiron trine, promoting self-confidence and a pioneering spirit for creative endeavors, encouraged by the Leo Moon. A Moon-Uranus square may push us out of our comfort zone to try something new. The Moon is void of course for a long period from 10:00 a.m. through Friday, June 23 at 3:34 a.m. Friday. During this time it is best to attend to routine, insignificant matters. It is difficult for sound decisions to be made when the Moon is void.

The Virgo Moon on Friday, June 23, ushers in a three-day weekend for cleaning up, organizing, and getting things done. A Moon-Sun sextile grounds us in matters of hearth and home. A Moon-Saturn opposition tethers us to responsibilities. Yet, a Moon-Jupiter trine gives expansion and buoyancy. Much can be accomplished.

In the glow of last night’s enthusiastic Moon-Jupiter trine we set goals for addressing the weekend’s tasks. The sizzling Moon-Uranus trine may bring some surprises and help us solve problems quickly and intuitively. The Virgo Moon encourages us to strive for self-improvement.

Mercury-square-Neptune on Sunday, June 25, gives idealistic thinking, and we may lack clarity. However, The powerful Moon-Pluto trine in grounded earth signs Virgo and Capricorn will enable us to get a lot accomplished before the Moon moves into social-oriented Libra at 3:57 p.m. PDT when we can relax into a social evening.

Monday’s (June 26) major aspect is Mars-square-Uranus. This fixed square combination at 21 degrees of Leo-Taurus is impulsive, creative, and electric. This aspect can be prone to accidents if not careful. However, the Mars-Uranus square can spark innovative ideas and action.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
