In the Stars March 29-April 4, 2020...shining light on the astrology of the week

This week harbors even more volatility than the past couple of weeks as Mars will be conjunct Saturn exactly for about four days (Monday through Thursday), and Jupiter will makes its first of three conjunctions on April 4th near Mars and Saturn. Jupiter, usually a benefic planet, exaggerates and expands, and combined with Pluto, Saturn and Mars this coming week could be even more turbulent than life has been. The astrology of these COVID-19 times includes the Pluto/Saturn conjunction, Mars being out-of-bounds until June, and the nodes in problematic Nakshatras (arcs of 27 divisions of the zodiac) Ardra and Mula, according to Vedic astrology, and a challenging yoga (Kala Sarpa) where the planets Sun through Saturn are all on one side of the nodal axis. So what to do when the planetary energy is so intense? Be careful, intentional, and focused. Most of us have been prepared for the volatility by sheltering in place, not traveling, and heeding warnings to be cautious. Remember that also we can use this tremendous energy for good. Much can be accomplished. Breakthroughs can happen in solving deep problems and doing our work. Mars and Saturn will be conjunct at 0 degrees of Aquarius, the sign of invention and innovation. Perhaps a vaccine for COVID-19 will be discovered with the help of this alignment.

While the short-term advice is to be conscious and careful this week, the demands of the energy in the bigger picture are to consider what is being asked of our lives. Pluto demands surrender—and takes things away if you don’t surrender freely. Saturn demands restructuring, and ends things that no longer serve. The big question now is: What needs to be surrendered, destroyed, given up, or restructured in our lives? I wasn’t surprised to hear on the news last night that divorces are increasing at this time. What isn’t working is likely to be taken away or ended. Financial cycles analyst Ray Merriman has written an excellent free report about this pivotal time, its bearing on finances, and what it implies for the length of COID-19. The energies in the week ahead are extremely turbulent. You will benefit from the grounding, stretching, bending, and movement of exercise to keep yourself balanced, strong, and flexible. Yoga and dance are good choices, but any exercise that stretches and strengthens you will help you ride the turbulence and build your immune system. The internet and YouTube are full of exercise workouts to keep us in shape as we shelter-in-place. If you haven’t found programs you like yet, go exploring. One free app I have been using that offers many great exercise choices is Peleton.

The Moon is in curious Gemini on Sunday. We usually feel an urge to go places and to be social. With the Coronavirus shelter-in-place order, we can channel that energy into explorations at home or through the computer, and converse by phone or internet. Read a book. Explore YouTube and learn something new. Listen to a podcast. Call your sibling(s). The asteroid of health and hygiene, Hygeia, is conjunct the Moon, so health is highlighted.

Monday, March 30 is the first of four extremely intense, volatile days when Mars is exactly conjunct Saturn, and Jupiter, Pluto, and Pallas Athena are exactly conjunct a few degrees away from Pluto and Saturn. Mars, Pluto, and Saturn all conjunct are extremely volatile, corresponding with the heightening of the spread of COVID-19. Jupiter amplifies whatever it touches. Saturn and Mars combined can act as a push-pull or blocking energy, though it can also give great focus. From a Jyotish or Vedic perspective, all of the planets are hemmed in by the nodes (except the Moon during half of the month). This hemming of energy can also be volatile and difficult. We already know we need to be cautious and our lives are restricted. However, there is a lot of energy for action. So dig into projects, purge your homes of clutter, or learn a new skill to enhance your profession. On Monday the Moon is void of course all day from 8:11 a.m. PDT. We may feel scattered due to the void Moon in Gemini and the Moon’s square to Neptune. This is not a day for focus. Allow yourself to flow with the meandering energies of the day. When the Moon is in Gemini we want to communicate, so reach out to family, friends, or colleagues with a phone call. Mars’ entry into Aquarius draws us toward freedom and friendship through May 12th. Reach out through a Zoom call and be charitable toward your neighbors.

The Moon enters Cancer tropically on Tuesday which usually gives a cozy, caring energy. However, Mars conjuncts Saturn, a harsh, disagreeable aspect that can manifest as a blocking energy. The Moon squares Chiron, another uncomfortable alignment. Be kind. Do what you can do, but don’t try to force resistant energy. Cook some comfort food and nourish yourself or support your local restaurant with some delicious take-out food.

All Fool’s Day April 1st is not a light-hearted day. This is day three of the extremely volatile energy of the Mars-Saturn alignment. However, lunar trines to Mercury and Neptune give compassion, understanding, and inspiration.

Thursday is a highly charged day full of planetary challenges. The Moon opposes Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, and Mars, and squares Uranus! You may meet obstacles, and there also may be a few surprises. Mid-day the Moon moves from Cancer to more playful Leo tropically, which may uplift our spirits. When there is this much challenging energy in the day it is best to be conscious and cautious; at the same time the dynamic energy wants to work, so lean in and get some big things accomplished.

The intensity of the last four days lifts a little on Friday, Venus’ Day, and Venus moves into Gemini tropically for an extra-long stay of four months due to a retrograde period beginning in early May. Gemini is an air and symbolizes curiosity and connection; this shift will lighten things up a bit. The luminaries, Sun and Moon make a warm, congenial trine in fire signs. Mercury is conjunct Neptune which could cloud our thinking – or inspire us. The Moon is void of course for over 24 hours beginning at 12:29 p.m. until 2:18 p.m. on Saturday. If you have meetings to attend or decisions to make, attend to those matters in the morning. Take it easy in the afternoon and evening, and watch a good movie on Netflix.

The big cosmic event of Saturday is Jupiter’s exact conjunction with Pluto at 24:53 Capricorn. This is a powerful combination for transformation. Note how the big changes in your life especially in the last three months, have manifested and shifted things for you. Another strong cosmic event is Venus trine Saturn which will give relational support. This alignment can help us re-set and manage the turbulence that may have been stirred up earlier in the week. At 2:18 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into industrious Virgo and this will help us get our lives in order over the next two days, but perhaps not until tomorrow, as a Moon-Uranus trine in the evening may deliver some surprises, as well as some brilliant ideas.

Palm Sunday is a relatively quiet day astrologically, giving us some peace and calm to put our lives in order with the grace of the orderly Virgo Moon. Enjoy the day, especially after this extremely active, volatile week!

On Monday the Virgo Moon makes benefic trine aspects to all the planets that are conjunct in Capricorn and early Aquarius: Pluto, Jupiter, Pallas Athena in Capricorn, and Saturn and Mars in early Aquarius. The Moon is void of course all morning until 2:16 p.m. PDT when it moves into Libra. Use the Virgo Moon to tend to routine tasks, and hold meetings and things requiring connection until after 2:16 p.m. PDT.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
