In the Stars May 15-22, 2022...shining light on the astrology of the week: Total Lunar Eclipse

A Total Lunar Eclipse occurs Sunday, May 15 at 9:13 p.m. PDT, or May 16 at 4:13 a.m. GMT. The Full Moon luminaries are square to Saturn and Vesta, which both symbolize work and taking care of business. This is a demanding alignment. At the same time, Mars and Neptune are trine the Moon, giving vision and strong energy. Lunar eclipses hold powers for release. In all, this eclipse is a strong, action-oriented alignment, inviting reflection, liberation, and renewal.

Mercury is now retrograde until June 3rd. It is time to review, revise, re-think, and renovate. Be careful about communication and appointments as they can get mixed up easily. Be forgiving of mistakes and misunderstandings. While not a good time to sign contracts, or to do anything about which you want to feel certain, it is a good time to clean up and address your email backlog and reconsider plans and goals. It is also a good time to build upon projects started in the past.

The Sun cycles through the last degrees of Taurus tropically until Friday when it moves into mutable Gemini, the sign bridging spring to summer. Savor the last days of the Sun in Taurus by pleasing your senses with delicious food and fragrances, and delightful ambiance and music. Tend your garden.

Jupiter is now in Aries where it will be for five months until it retrogrades back into Pisces on October 28th for a couple of months before it finally enters Aries again. Jupiter in Aries call for adventure and expansive new beginnings. Take a spring leap forward.

Sunday begins with a bang as the Scorpio Moon opposes Uranus. Aim to break out of your routine. Go for a new hike, or enjoy Sunday brunch at an unusual spot. The Moon is Full, perfecting at 9:13 p.m. PDT. A Venus-Chiron conjunction may correspond with feelings of vulnerability, as well as it gives the potential for healing in relationships. The day calls for strong work with the Full Moon and Sun square Saturn. Benefic aspects include a Sun-Neptune sextile, and a Moon-Mars trine which ease tensions and give good energy. The Full Moon is an active Total Lunar Eclipse. Shadowy material may be illuminated, as well as much can be accomplished.

After an active, demanding weekend, we are uplifted by the buoyant Sagittarius Moon on Monday. The Moon’s benefic trine to Jupiter makes for an invigorating, expansive, day. Be adventurous.

Mars and Neptune, two strange bedfellows, conjunct on Tuesday. Inspiration and artistic endeavors are fueled. Hidden information may be revealed. The energetic, optimistic Sagittarius Moon trines Chiron and Venus, and squares Mars and Neptune. These aspects will generate activity and passion. On the other hand, we may feel a bit lazier, or perhaps simply more satisfied than usual.

The Capricorn Moon frames Wednesday and Thursday for work. On Wednesday, the Moon’s square to Jupiter and an opposition to Ceres may correspond with feeling overextended, The needs of others may feel demanding or overwhelming; do your best to meet them with whatever you have to give. These are industrious days when a lot can be accomplished.

Thursday’s Sun-trine-Pluto aspect sets us up to make significant strides in our work, and the Moon’s trine to Uranus insures that we can bring some new ideas to our projects. A Mercury-Jupiter sextile gives innovation and inspiration, especially through conversations with others. Some chaos and tension may be present in the evening hours as Eris and the Moon square off, but the Moon’s benefic sextile to Neptune eases the tension.

The Sun ingresses into Gemini on Friday, ushering in a month focused on learning through classes, curiosity, and conversation. A Moon-Mercury trine sets the stage for the exchange of ideas. The Moon moves into Aquarius, inviting a weekend of friendship and connection.

Saturday may be full of surprises as the Moon squares Uranus. The Sun’s conjunction with Mercury in mutable Gemini can easily handle the twists and turns with flexibility. A Venus-Moon sextile in the evening invites a sweet, lively social evening with diverse friends.

The Moon moves into Pisces on Sunday, normally ushering in a time of reflection and receptivity, but this day is activated by more social planetary activity. The Moon squares Mercury and the Gemini Sun, generating communication that may excite the usual peace and quiet that Pisces desires. A Moon-Pluto sextile pushes us out into the world. Be kind and charitable.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
