In the Stars November 1-8, 2020...shining light on the astrology of the week

The Full Blue Moon on Saturday, October 31st, Halloween, is a whopper--loaded with potential! Uranus conjuncts the Moon and opposes the Sun exactly! Expect the unexpected and be prepared for more breakdowns, or breakthroughs. Halloween is followed by the Day of the Dead on Sunday, and All Soul's Day on Monday, days when the veil between the living and the dead are said to be thin, and we are invited to honor and commune with out deceased ancestors in special ways, at least by putting their pictures on an altar, serving their favorite foods, and perhaps setting a plate for them at out tables. It is no coincidence that these festivals honoring the dead fall in the month of Scorpio, the sign symbolizing death and rebirth.

This week’s focus is on the election. Mercury continues retrograde until Election Day, November 3rd, when it turns direct. This probably means that we won’t know who is the clear winner for some time. There is likely to be a lot of confusion around the election. Mercury doesn't leave its shadow phase until November 19th. Mars turns direct on November 13th. Perhaps the presidential election will not be definitive until sometime in that window. These energies influence all of us, so don't expect to move things forward until the latter part of November.

Sunday, November 1, is The Day of the Dead, or All Saints Day, and an active day from a planetary perspective. This is a day to honor your deceased ancestors in special ways, at least by putting their photos on your altar or in a special place in your home. The exalted Taurus Moon makes numerous flowing aspects. There is a great deal of energy for strong work. Mercury squares Saturn, which can generate doubt or great focus. Check your plans twice.

All Soul's Day is Monday, a continuation of the honoring of the dead. Monday begins a new work week focused on information, conversation, and connection. There’s a whole lot to talk about as we anticipate tomorrow’s election. We want to be sociable, so consider how to manifest the desire safely.

Here we are at Election Day! Mercury is stationary, turning direct, and in a tight and tense square with Saturn. Mars makes a benefic aspect to the Moon, giving energy and opportunity. The Moon and Neptune form a cloudy square in the afternoon. The planetary energy probably means that we will not likely know clear results of the election on Election Day. Mix-ups are extremely likely to occur. Imagine or pray for the best outcomes for humanity in the election.

Wednesday, just after Election Day, is relatively quiet on the planetary plane, allowing us the ease to rest from the highly charged Election Day. The Moon is void of course from 5:49 to 1:45 p.m. PDT, a time to pause and attend to insignificant routine tasks. Our attention span is short and distracted. At 1:45 p.m. PDT the Moon moves into compassionate, caring Cancer. Communication may be confused and turbulent as Mercury is just past its station, getting its grounding to move forward. Focus on family Wednesday evening, and cook up some comfort food.

Emotions are strong on Thursday, and it’s a day of mixed energy, some flowing, some challenging. The day begins with an opportune lunar sextile to Uranus. Be open to a surprising day. The Moon makes edgy squares to Venus and Mars, heralding disruptions. Yet, the Moon-Sun trine grounds and steadies the disruptions.

Be prepared for a rough ride on Friday, Venus Day, which should be about love and beauty. This is the day of the week now where the Moon aligns with the powerful planets Pluto, Jupiter, and Saturn. Turbo-charge your day and plan to get a lot accomplished. The evening nests in a void-of-course Moon from 5:27 p.m. through 11:18 p.m. PDT, so take it easy, and cozy up and watch a movie after a homey, satisfying meal.

Saturday is relatively quiet in the Cosmos. Pause, and do something fun, as the Moon is in playful Leo, and we all deserve some pleasure after all we’ve been holding.

Sunday is another day for play and creative expression in the light of the Leo Moon. The Moon makes its last quarter square, signaling a time to close in on projects begun at the beginning of this lunar cycle on October 16th, and completing at the New Moon November 14th. Enjoy some special time with your children or grandchildren.

Monday is a day full of lots of different energies. Frist, the Moon moves into Virgo early in the morning Pacific Time (5:30 a.m.), signaling two and a half industrious days for getting your life in good order. It’s the time of the month to clean and organize and take care of details. Mars and Venus form an opposition, bringing a focus on relationships. Uranus trines the Moon, perhaps bringing a nice surprise! And the Sun and Neptune make a benefic trine, calling us to a higher vision.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
