In the Stars October 8-15, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: Solar Eclipse

The coming week is fired up with potent, volatile alignments. Mars conjuncts the South Node, while opposite Eris conjuncts the North Node. The nodal conjunctions exaggerate the qualities of these two aggressive planets, Mars and Eris. Pluto, an intense, explosive planet as well, is square to these planets and the nodal axis, making for a lot of tension. With Pluto turning direction late on October 10, it is especially potent. There is much strife in the world now, and Mars is a trigger that acts, impulsively as well as courageously. The alignments in the coming weeks are likely to rock the world. Financial markets are volatile now. Congress is an upheaval, with a new Speaker of the House to be voted on this week. There are numerous hot spots of tension in the world that may be further ignited in the next few weeks.

The first of two eclipses, the Solar Eclipse, occurs on October 14, followed by the Lunar Eclipse October 28.

How can you manage this powerful, explosive energy personally for good? Tackle a big project that requires a lot of personal fuel and fire. However, keep things simple and safe. This is not a time for taking risks and making big decisions.

Drama may unfold Sunday, October 1, as Mars and Pluto make an exact square. This energy has been at play for several days, and may come to a crescendo. It may be especially strong given that Pluto is slowing down to change direction on Tuesday. Desire, power, and control issues are triggered, exaggerated by a Moon-Jupiter square. Venus moves out of its long 4-month stay in Leo and ingresses into Virgo.

The Leo Moon squares Uranus on Monday, October 9, which may be reflected in sudden breakthroughs or changes. This occurs in addition to the still powerful, explosive energy of the Mars-Pluto square. Venus opposes Saturn, confronting us with financial or relational issues.

Big events and changes are expected this week, and Tuesday, October 10, bears a big influence as Pluto stations and turns direct in motion in the evening. When a planet stations and turns direction, its energy is amplified. Pluto symbolizes power, control, and transformation. Pluto is in square aspect to Mars this week, making it especially volatile. The Moon moves into Virgo early morning at 5:02 a.m. PDT, ushering in 2 ½ days framed for clean-up and putting order in our lives. The Moon conjuncts Venus and opposes Saturn, directing our attention to matters of love and money, and urging us to address issues.

Wednesday, October 11, opens on a bright, optimistic note with the Moon trine Jupiter. Make the most of this day with alignments to help accomplish many tasks and get organized. Mars leaves Libra and moves into Scorpio where it will be through November 24. In Scorpio, Mars is vigorous, passionate, and full of desire. Scorpio is a strong placement for Mars as it is the ancient ruler.

Thursday, October 12, holds workday hours that foster efficiency and the completion of practical tasks, though the Moon is void of course from 1:10 p.m.-5:21 p.m. PDT. While the Moon is void, attend to routine tasks that need to be completed. Refrain from meetings that will likely not have definitive results (I have a standing meeting during this time—we’ll see how it goes! Good for astrological research.) At 5:21 p.m. PDT the Moon goes into Libra, calling us to enjoy a friendly dinner in a beautiful setting.

The stand-out planetary alignment for Friday, October 13, is Mars-trine-Saturn. This aspect galvanizes energy, drive, and willpower. Move plans forward.

The Solar Eclipse is the crowning alignment of Saturday, October 14 at 21: 07 Libra, at 10:54 a.m. PDT. The Sun, Moon, and South Node square Pluto and oppose Chiron, Eris, and the North Node. The eclipse could be experienced as a block that must be addressed, or it could be a power surge that propels you into new territory. The New Moon is a time for seeding something new; this one is prime for setting intentions for relationships.

Sunday, October 15, is anchored by a Moon/Mars conjunction that is trine Saturn, inviting responsible, measured action. This alignment enables us to move forward dynamically with our duties. We are infused with drive and ambition.

Feelings run deep on Monday. The Scorpio Moon opposes Jupiter and conjuncts Ceres. We feel expansive, and appreciate our connection to loved ones. Later in the day the Moon opposes Uranus, encouraging independence and free-thinking.

The Week in Short:

Sunday: Explosive day. Some issues may come to a head.

Monday: Another powerful day that may trigger aggression or sudden breakthroughs.

Tuesday: Pluto stations to turn direct. Demanding day. Get your life in order.

Wednesday: Bright, optimistic, industrious day. Get to work and get organized!

Thursday: Strong, efficient work day. Focus on routine tasks from 1:10 p.m.-5:21 p.m. PDT when the Moon is void of course. Enjoy a lovely dinner with friends.

Friday: Move plans forward with drive and willpower.

Saturday: Solar Eclipse! Potent alignment that highlights relationship issues.

Sunday: Drive and ambition about. Make bold steps with responsibilities.

Monday: Deep feeling of connection with loved ones, and at the same time we are drawn toward independence and free thinking.

Ten Things to Do with the Venus in Virgo (October 8-November 7)

1. Make your life shipshape. 2. Organize your work space. 3. Deep clean your home. 4. Engage in a self-improvement course. 5. File loose papers. 6. Do a 3-day cleanse. 7. Eat a pure diet during this time. 8. Amplify your health regime. 9. Clean up your email. 10. Attend to the details in your job that call for attention.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
