In the Stars September 10-17, 2023 . . . Shining Light on the Astrology of the Week: New Moon
With the Sun in Virgo tropically, this month invites us to get our lives in better order. It is also the time to get back to school, study and work on personal goals, including diet and exercise.
This week holds a New Moon in Virgo on Thursday, September 14. This lunation is a great time to set goals for the month regarding cleaning, organizing, and self-improvement. Seven planets are now retrograde: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Chiron, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. All this retrograde energy invites an interior, reflective, intuitive focus. Mercury’s three-week retrograde period through September 15 is a time for review and revision, but not for moving things forward. You may find that you are experiencing numerous changes in daily plans. This is likely due to Mercury’s retrogradation, and the Sun being in the mutable (changeable) sign Virgo. Appliances and technology are more likely to break down during Mercury’s backward spin. Retrograde planets are slow, and thus, their energy is amplified. Be flexible, and patient with mix-ups, changes, and mistakes. This is a good time to reflect, re-think, and re-work plans and projects.

Early Sunday morning, September 10, a demanding Moon-Pluto opposition emboldens emotions. Get fired up for an expressive day of fun. At 9:35 a.m. PDT the Moon moves into Leo, and the rest of the day invites play. Take your children or grandchildren on an outing, or attend a theater performance.
Monday’s Leo Moon conjunct Venus encourages a day of heartfelt connection with a dear friend or lover. A Moon-Jupiter square may lead to overdramatizing, overspending, or overdoing in some way. Yet, it is a jovial day to enjoy.
The playful, exuberant Leo Moon colors Tuesday, September 12, with creative energy. The Moon squares Uranus, ringing bells, and generating excitement. There may be some surprising twists and turns. Shower appreciation on others from your generous heart.
Wednesday through Friday morning the Moon is in Virgo. It’s the time of the month to put your life in order. Wednesday morning, September 13, the stage is set for strong work by a Saturn-Moon opposition in the early morning. The Virgo Moon loves to work on tasks, so this should be no problem. Plan to get a lot accomplished.
Thursday, September 14, holds the New Moon in Virgo (21:58) that occurs at 6:39 p.m. PDT. The Moon-Jupiter trine gives enthusiasm for work. Set goals for accomplishment for the day as well as the month ahead. The Moon-Uranus trine later in the evening may open us up to something new or take us in a different direction than planned.
Dreams are amplified in the wee hours of Friday, September 15, due to a Moon-Neptune opposition. After sunrise the Moon trines Pluto, and we garner a strong dose of determination. Mercury completes its retrograde cycle, coming to a standstill at 8 degrees Virgo. The Sun trines Uranus, invoking change. Open up to something new and different today.
The focus is on relationships on Saturday and Sunday with the Moon in Libra. Mars conjuncts the Moon on Saturday, September 16, activating the need to connect with a loved one. A Moon-Venus sextile amplifies tender-heartedness, and invites pleasure. A Venus-Uranus square may be disruptive, or bring a new twist to matters of love or money.
Sunday, September17, aspects to the Moon from Eris and Pluto may churn up emotions and reveal some truths about relationships. The Libra Moon loves art and beauty, so visit an art museum, or take a stroll in a beautiful garden.
Monday’s (September 18) Moon-Saturn trine anchors the day early, drawing us toward duty and responsibility at the beginning of the work week. A Moon-Mercury sextile eases conversation. The Moon's placement in Scorpio takes us deep into our feelings.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it is difficult to make good decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together, and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. We more easily get lost or meander in trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
